True - but also cannot be looked at in isolation. If you are not doing a job in midfield and consequently your team is overrun in that area your overall contribution may not be as good as the goal tally suggests.
JSL.
Well play 4-5-1, fcuk Davies off and Nolan can sit on a deckchair til the ball gets in the box
Easy

That's a 4-5-0 then.

Re: Would you have Nolan back?
Presumably when Klasnic was starting we were playing 4-4-1 then? Nolan doesn't have the mobility or engine or mind to play central midfield in a 4-4-2, but he scores goals. It's OK for a striker to do fook all except score goals but not someone who has played just off a striker for most of his time at Newcastle.Wandering Willy wrote:That's a 4-5-0 then.

LL is using the logic of this lot

and using it to argue twelve goals is not contributing. Madness.
I wouldn't want him back, but only coz if 4-4-2 were a human being Coyle would marry/civil partner it.

Re: Would you have Nolan back?
He suits a 451 but he'd have been better in 442 than our 4 highest paid (i presume) centre mids from April onwards last season.
fecking odd he's dropping divisions, is a 5 year contract really worth that much?

Re: Would you have Nolan back?
Nolan's deteroriation here started under Big Sam's watch. It took to get out at Newcastle under a different manager, coaches and backroom staff for him to sort his game, his head and his fitness out- is going back to Sam the best idea?
Nolan next year should be fine to fire West Ham back up but I can't help thinking it's an inconsistant spell of form away from falling under the Boa Morte/Dyer/Ljungberg transfer strategy of giving an old (I know he's only 28 but I can't see him making it past 30-31 in PL terms) a five year contract on ridiculous wages with him spending more than half of it sat on the bench.
For what it's worth, taking all the sentiment away I'm glad we didn't retain Gardner or end up with Nolan or Faye back.
Faye and Gardner are in the twilight of their career and have injury problems- Nolan for reasons mentioned above.
Move forward, don't look back.

According to a reasonably reliable spammer I know he had a medical at Upton Park today.

So, according to a reasonably reliable spammer with Sky then.
Also released this summer: Abdoulaye Meite and Eidur Gudjohnsen. Tal Ben Haim is probably buyable too. Nicky Hunt certainly is.Let's get the gang back together!

Hunt will be sat in a mansion in Bristol staring forlornly at his mobile, just willing it to ring

Wouldn't have him back he was quality for us back in the day but we've moved on, he will tear up the championship next season prob get like 15 goals and get them to win the championship. I reckon Big Sam is gettin old school Wanderers back together next you'll see Ivan, Jay Jay and Youri in a spammers shirt with Nicky C**t at rb and Faye.

Helluvaninvestment on someone of his age
Re: Would you have Nolan back?
Not having forgotten how utter dog shite he was in the last 2 years at Bolton, I wouldn't have him back. His sole contribution seemed to be shouting as often as possible at other players to mask his woeful inability to get a grip on a match.
Onwards and upwards.

Re: Would you have Nolan back?
Well said. Nolan was a divisive character who brought out the worst in other people and who was a declining force over the last four years, nevermind two. His departure was well-received by most sensible Bolton fans, and Jloyd Samuel's chin.
