I realise...but going from Tottenham, to Bolton?? Thats how they'll see it, they'd rather go back to a 'top' french club.

What do you call decent, considering the whack they'll be on at Tottenham? If they leave it will be because somebody will pay them close to that, which rules us out !

Players have moved from big clubs to 'lesser' clubs in the past, you know

I dont know who you're trying to convince, cos there's no way on this planet that Tottenham players on good contracts in the prime of their careers will agree to move to Bolton in a swap deal involving someone going to tottenham to take their place.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Depends if they want to play first team football. We're hardly talking world beaters here. Each player is different so I think its a sweeping generalisation anyhow. Bassong and Kaboul may want to play in the premiership. If Spurs make it known they're not wanted and they are "encouraged" to come here as part of the Cahill deal, then I can see getting one of them as a possibility. I imagine that there would be a lot that needed to happen in order for that deal to go through so its probably more unlikely than likely. But I don't think its an automatic given that those players wouldn't consider us.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:I dont know who you're trying to convince, cos there's no way on this planet that Tottenham players on good contracts in the prime of their careers will agree to move to Bolton in a swap deal involving someone going to tottenham to take their place.

Ok well we'll see..i just think that out of all the possibilites so far mentioned with Cahill, this is the least likely. It's proved impossible to get a reserve kid from City to come to us 15 mile down the road, maybe even on a loan...once a player has big club mentality its a tough one to overcome, regardless of if they are wordl beaters or not.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Lets say for example...you're on 60 grand a week for a further 2 years at spurs but play every 3 or 4 weeks. Bolton offer you 30 grand a week for 3 years to play every week.
They're going to throw away 3 million quid to , ya know, PLAY football?

Daniel Sturridge, Jack Wilshere?
Sorry but its perfectly possible that for any number of reasons players don't want to join us. But equally I think its just plain wrong to suggest that no player would leave Spurs for us just because they are "at Spurs". If they are unwanted there and have a desire to play football (which OC has as a requirement for any signing anyways) then could be a deal to suit everyone.
I agree its unlikely, but the way you're putting it we can never sign any player from a club "bigger" than ourselves. Which is just not the case.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
.
Its not 'no player', its these two players and the whole swap situation. If it was a stand alone deal and we offered to buy them and a wage close to what they earn then i agree, we would have a chance. But in this situation we have to be realistic, they will not fee like being part of a swap which takes THEM to the smaller club that the guy coming in is trying to LEAVE to better hs career...it'll feel wrong to them, like a backward step. This is all im trying to explain, the context of the deal
Loan players? I dont see how thats relevant, those guys knew they were going back to their parent club.BWFC_Insane wrote:Daniel Sturridge, Jack Wilshere?

Reports coming out that Tottenham are the first club to make an official bid for Cahill. No details as of yet
