Where are they now - Mikel 'Brother of Xabi' Alonso

Post by TKIZ! » Mon Jun 20, 2011 4:24 pm

Being reported on SSN that's he's in talks with Charlton. Only played 7 league games and was brought in by Sammy 'Positives in everything' Lee.

HWSNBN didn't like the cut of his jib so didn't play him again very often
Pfffft.

He was alright in the UEFA Cup, I seem to recall, where the slower pace suited him.

In other news, him from Jackass died today.

I remember him making one Xabi-esque crossfield pass in a pre-season game.

Didn't do much else!

Is that the same as Franck Passi hitting the bar?

It never happened!

Alonso did actually hit the bar from very far out against Everton I think it was.
But then the goal we conceded in the last minute was his fault.

That was a cracking shot that hit the bar but yes he was at fault for their winner

Can't recall the crossbar incident but the goal was Gerald 'how did I play professional football' Cids fault. Missed a sliding tackle on Andy Johnson. By about 500 miles.

Both played in the game at Munich that ginger wanker tried to lose.

Cid shocker was the first one. Nico equalised and then Alonso went wandering from his post for a (what felt like) 90th minute Commander Wharf goal from a corner.

Yup, remember Commander Wharf scoring as the missus jumped up and shouted "Yes. (pause) It's alright everyone I'm not an Everton fan but I've got him in my Fantasy Football team!"

Oh how I wished the ground had opened up
Pfffft.

I always thought that Mikel was a decent if not spectacular player. Quite tidy, decent enough passer with a good shot. He was never going to be a Ginger Tosspot favourite though.

that line up v bayern munich
Al Habsi (soon to be wiggin spit)
Michalik (released by Carlisle??)
Cid (surely been found out as a "footballer" and forced into retirment?)
AOB (played well that season to be fair)
Gardner (hero)
Mccann (Garys favourite sub)
Alonso (not as good as his brother)
Nolan (errrrm)
Guthrie (sidewayssidewayssideways)
Braaten (good on youtube)
SKD (who put the ball in the munich net?)

Subs
Stelios and Andranik IIRC

Was back at the Allianz last month on one of them stadium tours, the guy said their manager was told he wasn't needed anymore after that result!

Cid retired voluntarily mid way through a contract back in France because he didn't want to pick up a wage every week fro just sitting on the bench. Quite admired him for that. He was gash though.

He may well have been told that, but Ottmar Hitzfeld stayed in charge till the end of the season, winning the Bundesliga and German Cup and reaching the UEFA Cup semi-final...

According to the official site (I know) the changes were forced and McCann played right-back...
