Re: Where are you going tonight?
Bit late this but last Friday we took the kids to see War Horse at the New London Theatre*. Innovatively staged and almost uniformly well acted, but in all honesty, the wife and I thought William the White's Early One Morning was a better-written story...

But surely you're comparing chalk with cheese there, fella. I can't wait to see War Horse, put more for the puppetry.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Bit late this but last Friday we took the kids to see War Horse at the New London Theatre*. Re: Where are you going tonight?
World War One cheese with World War One chalk? Both are stories of humble working-class provincial lads confused and lost in WWI hell, wishing they were back in a simple life with their beloveds. I merely think WtW's was the better "screenplay", and the Barnettas both think Murpurgo's book is a better story than the stage adaptation – although comparing those media may be more of a chalk-and-cheese job.Bruce Rioja wrote:But surely you're comparing chalk with cheese there, fella. Do go watch War Horse, though, it's a good evening. I think the Barnettas were the only kids in there, mind. In fact I saw more £50 notes (waved at the interval bar by American tourists).
LL (or "Lofthouse Lower" if you're not into that whole brevity thing): You're thinking of the rather different Equus.

Ah that's the one - wondered why you'd taken your younglings to see such a sight

Give it three or four years, I'm sure they'll be more interested...Lofthouse Lower wrote:Ah that's the one - wondered why you'd taken your younglings to see such a sight

I appreciate that, though I maintain that you'd go to see both plays for different reasons though, not because they're both set in WW1.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:World War One cheese with World War One chalk? Re: Where are you going tonight?
Thank you for that, DSB.
Writing that play was quite a journey. At one stage I was having nightmares about WW1.
The Octagon did a great job, i thought. And Maxine Peake's first job. She hasn't stopped working since.
Btw - I really want to see War Horse.
And Equus is a great play. Outstanding.

I love Maxine Peake. There, I've said it.
Do, all, go see War Horse if it grabs your fancy. Being second-best to WtW is no shame

Out into civilization, albeit briefly. If I've got time today I'll post pictures. If not, you'll have to wait until the end of next week. Don't worry though, there are pictures.William the White wrote:Feck... I've always wanted to go to Costa Rica, it looks so beautiful... Please report... Peaceful place. Abolition of the military enshrined in its constitution...
Re: Where are you going tonight?
Indeed, though the number of violent crimes has risen alarmingly in recent years.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
I heard today that Jack Hargreaves, nephew of James Smith, died last week. He and his wife were the people I drove to Ypres to see their uncle's grave. They planted a miniature red rose on it and had a good cry.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Bit late this but last Friday we took the kids to see War Horse at the New London Theatre*. Me too.

OK, here are a few pictures, primarily on the chapel my father has been building for the past year on his estate there.
The pictures are huge, but here's one for good measure:

Is your dad a builder or an evangelist?
Or either/both and a Costa Rican as well?

Re: Where are you going tonight?
He's a builder (well, more of a woodworker, he can build anything with wood). The chapel is completely non-denominationalWilliam the White wrote:Is your dad a builder or an evangelist?

He's British, he just came across this piece of land in 2004 and moved out there the following year.
