I don't know for sure, but rumours were all over that he was released from Blackburn and from us for being caught nicking from his teammates' pockets as they were out training.

Don't know how true it is, but have heard the same story about him from a few different people......

I think if we had invested more time in Jermaine Johnston he could have an outstanding talent
Pfffft.

No he couldn't.

Wrong attitude. Which is why he never played top flight football again.

That's why Johnson hasn't ever risen higher since we let him go.

There aren't too many that have left us and then gone on to be really successful.

Well yes, but you can thank Barry Knight for that.

We were 30 odd million quid in debt at the time, without Eddie Davies and a premiership income.

I'd say that the money we got for him was absolutely essential.

However, IIRC Gudjohnsen shafted us to an extent by making it clear he only wanted to go to Chelsea preventing any chance of an auction.

Don't doubt that but had we kept him on in the Prem we could have doubled our money

Maybe, maybe not. Had Big Sam treated him the same as Dioufy I think we could have had a similar player on our hands.
Pfffft.

I remember him being unplayable against Man Utd away, but then dropped off pretty sharpish

No, he was sacked from Jackburn for that ... we actually signed him after that.

We let him go coz he didn't seem to be breaking through.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It was & he had, frankly, the best game I've ever seen a Bolton winger ever have. I was utterly excited by him.

He still failed to make it though & the 'wacky-baccy' story lingers but if it were so then he'd fail his medicals & be suspended, so methinks it's exaggerated.

We should have kept the Tad - for another season - and then another - and then some more...

From times past, players that were on our books - Alan Ball and Martin Dobson, both released after being on our books - another season would have shown just how good they were.

Gudjohnsen didn't shaft us

Chelsea were the only team willing to pay the cash we needed

Memories of his injury and the fact he couldn't hit the proverbial cows arse was what shafted us

Surely Ian Walker was in his prime when we let him go! he only needed 1 more year to get his state pension.

Aye we had a reminder of that recently!
