I don't think we've more at steak than them.
They need a keeper.
They specifically want Al Habsi; y'know, what with him being their player of the season and all.
They maybe would've been relegated if he hadn't been there.
They are owned by a senile old doddering cockend.

Worst case for us is we pay his wages for another year. Something we committed ourselves to anyway when we offered him his contract.
And Coyle has £0 to spend and our strikeforce consists of Robbie Blake, Kevin Davies, Ivan Klasnic and David Nugent.
Wigan will go and find another keeper.
Maybe they will, maybe they wont. But then again, maybe we've had enquiries ourselves as to his availability but haven't reacted to them because we promised Wigan first refusal as part of the loan deal. Who knows.

And if us improving our strike force all hinges on us getting another million quid for Al Habsi then we really, really do have serious problems.

People talk about a million quid like its pennies...its a shit load of money when all's said and done, and if you dont have a million pounds you soon notice, even at that level.
A million quid could be the signing on fee we dont have for a striker, or the extra 20 grand a week we cant afford for that particular striker. Better in our pocket than Whelan's, especially when our funds are tight.

In one of the papers today, there's a story saying that Whelan would be prepared to sell N'Zogbia, but he won't take a penny less than £12m

Couldn't find the story on t'internet, apart from this:
http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/foo ... _1_3508683

So, it's OK for Whelan to play hard ball, but not us.....
... of course I may just be talking bo11ocks

Nixon saying Villa are now in for him
Big Eck wants Al-Habsi to replace big Brad
Published 22:59 23/06/11 By Alan Nixon

New Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish will battle Wigan in a £5million fight for Bolton goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.

Big Eck wants Oman ace Al-Habsi as a successor for Brad Friedel.

Wigan are also keen on the 29-year-old, who helped them secure survival while on loan last season, but have disagreed over the fee.

To be fair, if my club was involved in a bitter negotiation and I had a pocket journo to hand, I'd be feeding him stories too.

If there is any truth in that though. I'd happily take less from Villa.

This.

All seems a bit too convenient to me. Surely Mcleish will go for Foster?

True, Nixon might be fanning the flames but it's very believable: Villa have zero keepers - Friedel and Guzan have gone - and AAH is one of the best and moist readily available, even if they get Foster.

Irksome as Whelan is I wouldn't "happily" take less from Villa, because I want us to maximise our sale price; like when we were selling Micky Ricketts to Spurs-or-Boro and Gartside/Allardyce were so annoyed by the London club's approach they blanked them off - that seemed to me to be unprofessional and it always struck me that we could have got more than the £3.5m Boro paid.

One more thing: although it's not perfect, I'd be happy to take £4m on Aug 31 – as long as we've sold Cahill before then. It's not like we need AAH, Jussi and Bogdan. Indeed, as it's 25% more than Wigan are offering, I'd be happier to take £4m then than £3m now.

That theory went out the window in his first Villa press conference  when asked would he raid Brum, he said they want the right players etc and doesn't like speaking about other clubs players. Then asked without naming names, if the right player happened to play for Brum would he make a move.. he replied "why not"

They all seem to say that, then spend the next year contradicting themselves.
