Athers, i think even you've got to admit your sig's a bit optimistic now.

Have we signed anyone yet?

No - but we've had a major culinary crisis while you've been away.

To be honest I like my mustard to burn my nose and make my eyes water, so I didn't really understand the dilemma.

Next time I suggest asking the nearest passing lady to taste it for you.

Job done.

United's shock bid for Spain and Barca hero
Published 22:59 26/06/11 By Alan Nixon

Sir Alex Ferguson has made a £15million offer for Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara.

The Manchester United boss wants the star of Spain’s European Championship Under-21 side in an outright cash deal – but Barca are reluctant to sell to a Champions League rival.

United’s offer is bigger than any other interested club and Fergie made his move before Thiago’s stunning 45-yard free-kick strike in the Euro final at the weekend.

Barca would like to farm the midfield prodigy out to a Premier League club, but want a buy-back clause, which United will not agree to.

Thiago is unlikely to play often for Barca next season, a problem that is troubling coach Pep Guardiola who does not want to lose him long-term.

The 20-year-old would be ideal to replace Paul Scholes at United but Barca are desperate to see him go somewhere else.

Fergie cannot even get between the player and the club to win the day – his agent is Guardiola’s brother Pere.

Barca would put Thiago in the Cesc Fabregas deal with Arsenal if they can have a recall on him – a plan that’s not much use to the Gunners as the talks for their skipper drag on.

Bizarrely Bolton Wanderers, who have been on Thiago’s trail for over a year, may have a chance as they are prepared to take him on Barca’s terms.

I'm guessing by "Barcelona's terms" it means a bit less cash and the inclusion of a buy back clause??

I honestly still think we have a chance. There's no way United will ever agree to a buy back clause, and Barcelona won't sell without one after what has happened with Fabregas.

We're still going to get him :)

Does anyone remember when Hull City spent half a summer chasing Alvaro Negredo?

That = This.

It'd piss me off a lot less if a Chelsea or a Man Utd buy him rather than a feckin Everton or Sunderland..not that either of the last 2 have even been linked with the lad but u get my drift... 8)

Coyle has worked with Williams before so he should know if he's what we need.

Rodrigo just seems like spending a lot of money (for us) on a lad who never imposed himself on the team last season. If we're spending that kind of moolah on him then for me he's got to be considered a regular first choice. Perhaps he will be.....

I'd not say no to Rodrigo on loan, but cash money? Not sure.

I have the same concerns about Rodrigo. Whether it is £3.5m or £6m it is still a lot of money for someone who is unlikely to make a significant impact this coming season. However, Owen has had a good enough look at him every day for the last 12 months to know if he is worth that fee.

Also, there were probably not many 19 year old (He was 20 in March) players last season who made 17 appearances for the first team, whether as a substitute or not. I think he is an excellent prospect so if Owen thinks he is worth it then lets get him now.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

Rodrigo clearly has the skillz that killz. It remains to be seen whether he can trained up to be more than a playground footballer though.

He can't be any worse than Cohen or OBrien on the wing though, so the only question is is what proportion of our summer budget are we splashing out on him?
