If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Look I'm not in favour of striking really, especially in this case. But its the above mentality that we really need to stamp out in this country!
to be fair... they DO get loads of holidays! it's no good denying it! 8)

Must be ace being a teacher

Rock up at 9am, finish at half three, months off every year and a good wage. Piece of piss

I've seen Waterloo Road, all the sixth-formers are fit slags wearing next-to-nowt and the teachers are usually up for some action too.

Are you a teacher?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Yeah, on maternity leave at the moment though.

I teach PE and Games to 5-13 year olds at a local private school. However, in my absence its been threatened with closure and whilst it is now staying open we have all been made redundant and only some of us will be re-employed. They have said informally they would like me back (was only going back to 3 afternoons a week anyway) but can't confirm anything til handovers and paperwork etc has been done so its all up in the air at the moment.

I have been offered some sports coaching work in primary schools and some swimming teaching at the local leisure centre but would prefer to stay in education because you get a proper salary rather then hourly rate and nice long holidays which you don't get in sports coaching/swim teaching so we shall see.

PE and Games!

What do you teach?

I'm not 'getting' at you just interested - our PE teachers just played the games with us, and didn't really do any coaching or teaching or owt like that

Cluedo & Risk.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

And BWFC-I demonstrates perfectly just how out of touch teachers are with the world for which they're supposed to be preparing their pupils/students.

Officially yes.

My wife is a teacher.

She leaves home at 07.40 and arrives at school at 08.00

She works from then until 17.15 when she leaves to pick up my daughter from school. 4 nights out of 5 she brings work home and again at weekends she will spend half a day working. She NEVER takes lunch breaks.

In the summer holidays she spends the first week in school finishing work for that academic year and the last week is spent there in preparation for the coming academic year.

She is directed to attend meetings in the evenings (twice this week she has returned home after 21.30) and receives no extra pay for any of it.

I like to tease my wife about her holiday entitlement but in reality she gets to spend very little of it 'relaxing'

Next year she will have chalked up her 25th year of working for the same education authority. In private industry she would be afforded a dinner dance in her honour and some sort of financial recognition for her effort.

Instead she, and her vocational peers will be villified by the press and government for 'holding the country to ransom'.

She isn't striking today. Her union isn't involved. She is keeping the school open for those kids who have teachers in.

But should she be required she would do. And I would applaud her decision to. Too many holidays? Pah!

Yup - and don't forget after the school clubs teachers are required to run, ENDLESS reports, not to mention stroppy, unreasonable parents and teaching complete brats who will do their upmost to push you to the limits and make you react. Oh, and the dreaded OFSTED...

My job isn't as intense as Mrs Enfields cos i teach a subject that doesn't require marking or as much detailed lesson prep plus i am part time, but for the many teachers i know what Gary describes is pretty standard.

Hey I'm not a teacher.

Point being that whatever holidays they get has absolutely nothing to do with the current situation. You keep bashing the public sector/teachers/nurses whoever you like and saying they've got an easy ride etc. My question is if that is the case why aren't you a teacher or a nurse, I'm sure you'd look fetching in the uniform!

My daughter is on work-experience as a teaching assistant. She happens to be assisiting the only teacher in the school who is NOT on strike - so she has to go in today! Obviously I followed her down the road shouting SCAB! SCAB! SCAB!

I suggesting to my daughter (whose school is closed) that she could go to my wife's school for the day.

''I'm not a scab, Daddy'' she said. Bless.
