Danny Ward is not out of the frame yet....

OWEN Coyle will run the rule over youngster Danny Ward on Wanderers’ pre-season tour of the United States before deciding whether to loan him out again.

The promising young striker spent time at Coventry City and Huddersfield Town last season, helping the latter into the League One play-off final.

Still just 19 years old, Ward has made only two senior appearances for the Whites but is expected to play a significant part during the club’s summer preparations, with only a handful of senior strikers at Coyle’s disposal.

Kevin Davies and Ivan Klasnic are the only recognised out-and-out centre forwards going into the new campaign, and while the Wanderers boss is in the market for more, the former Leeds United trainee is expected to be given ample opportunity to prove he can be a part of the first team picture.

It is understood Wanderers have been contacted by a handful of League One and Two clubs over loan deals for their young starlets, including Tom Eaves and Michael O’Halloran. But Coyle is willing to check out each one of them in the club’s eight pre-season friendlies, which commence on Thursday, July 14, with a game against FC Tampa Bay. Wanderers play Orlando SC on July 17 before contesting the Charities Cup against MLS side Houston Dynamo on July 20.

Think you're misreading (I did the same first time I read through and thought, 'huh?' The LG1/2 is for O'Halloran and Eaves. Which sounds about right for them.

There is no way Ward would be sent out anywhere other than the Championship.

Bringing someone through into the first team this coming season would be very nice. It seems like it's been a while. It would certainly be a plus for OC over other recent managers. Even re-signing Rodrigo for him to be a star striker this season would show that OC and team can develop players, if that happens.

One or two signings, one or two bosmans, one or two loanees and one or two up from the reserves would make a decent-ish size squad. Especially if we're happy to give them all gametime.
