Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Skysports.com understands Bolton are considering an offer for out-of-favour Tottenham striker Robbie Keane.
The Trotters are in the market for striking reinforcements after Daniel Sturridge returned to Chelsea following his successful loan spell and Johan Elmander's departure for Galatasaray at the conclusion of his contract.
Keane, who has one year left on his current deal, has admitted he expects to be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane this summer having fallen well down the pecking order under Harry Redknapp.
The Republic of Ireland international spent the second half of last season out on loan with West Ham but was unable to help the Hammers climb away from relegation danger.
The well-travelled striker has proved a regular source of goals throughout his career which has taken in further spells with Wolves, Coventry, Leeds, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Celtic, generating a combined transfer fee in excess of £70million.
Spurs could be ready to offer Keane as a makeweight in any possible deal to bring in-demand Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill to North London.

If you can't cut it at a relegated West Ham then I'm not sure I'd be interested.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Would be very high risk.
Clearly on form he's miles better than any of our forwards but he's been dire at his last three clubs, to the point where he was out of the West Ham relegation team for Carlton Cole!
Only saving grace for me would be looking at his recent Rep of Ireland form, clearly when it matters to him, he can still get goals. Coyle would have to work his magic on him. Big risk though.
And I've not even got onto his stupid wages!

Linked with Bellamy too on the BBC Gossip page...links to http://footybunker.com/bolton-and-fulha ... er-bellamy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Both Bellamy and Keane have a lot of negatives to them, but I suppose it's a welcome change to being linked with Jerome, Nugent and Ranger!

I'd take Keane. We're short on numbers up front, I imagine it'd be a relatively small transfer fee, and he offers something a bit different - he's a goal poacher, more than anything else. More than capable of grabbing 10/12 a season, given the chance.

yeah - but maybe he's holding it in reserve for a new lease of life with a new club... is it worth the risk??truewhite15 wrote:He scrapped that yonks back, didn't he?thebish wrote:yeah - BUT... that ridiculous non-cartwheel and gun-toting goal celebration???? no thanks!!truewhite15 wrote:I'd take Keane. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Perhaps he'll take a pay cut a la SWP.CrazyHorse wrote:Yep.keveh wrote:If you can't cut it at a relegated West Ham then I'm not sure I'd be interested.

I think there a quite a few players out there that are on massive wages that don't get a regular game, particularly at big clubs. At some point they have to ask themselves whether they are happy to sit on a bench and collect the cash or whether they would rather make a lower wedge and play every week.
Making 1.5m or so a year is perhaps not so bad especially if you are already set up for life. Unless you can get a move to another big club your options are limited if you want to play.
Of course I am relying on footballers not being completely mercenary which may be a bit naiive.

Wouldn't even take him on a Bosman..
..seriously though we could be here all day. Robbie Keane is a top class striker that just needs some consistency in his selection and the team around him, something he hasn't been given for years, including West Ham. Everytime he plays for Republic of Ireland he is sensational, as consistent as they come..something we've been crying out for.

Keane would be an enormous wage drain, and not a huge improvement imho.
He's not the player he once was, despite his wages. No thanks, we can do better! (Hopefully).

There must be a reason he was on the bench of a team whilst it got relegated?
