I'm a Labour supporter ( was even a member until Blair scrubbed socialism out of the party equation) but it's clear they are heading for a Foot-esque level of humiliation with this eejit in charge

One of the most cringeworthy, embarrassingly repetitive interviews I have ever seen.
How on earth did that lot choose him over his generally very impressive brother? Amazing.

It's the same thing. It is unfortunate IMO however, that Ed does seem to be turning out quite a bit shit.

It's like when Megson was in charge. Every now and then, as currently with the, ahem, 'standing up to Murdoch' he shows glimpses that he might not be fecking useless after all, only to slump back to form.

I find it incredibly rich of the financial services to be so obtuse. Clearly a banking crisis begat a (western) worldwide sovereign debt crisis. That they wish to keep feeding at the trough and yet simultaneously attempting to tear countries to pieces is despicable. I think it might teach the world a lesson it won't forget if a major economy (say an Italy or Spain) does default. Because ultimately, nobody has the money to repay the banks a second time if they do. Sadly, and as always, it will simply be ordinary people that will suffer if that happens. So it can't. So the vicious downward spiral continues.

I take it all back about the knock on the head.
Together we can sort this country out.
Now who's first against the Wall - Brown, Blair or Cameron?

Love those "balanced budgets" that are just an extremist right-wing tool to subjugate women.
Love erasing those deficits just by clicking a computer keyboard.
Love those parents paying money to have their children taught by this woman (a professor of Economics and Women's Studies at the University of South Maine).

I thought deficit spending was originally a Keynsian idea?

It's a kind of jokey version of Keynesian economics...
Explain why you dismiss it, please?
But not before popping over to the Press, Politicians, Police thread and giving some much needed objective legal guidance to my post on 'willingly blind'...

Re: The Politics Thread
Its interesting that it seems fair game to argue that quantative easing was a prequisite of upholding our way of life, yet when it comes to an actual discussion of upholding our way of life, all bets are off. I've never quite understood how the two seem incompatable. If saving the banks precipitates us all being worse off, why save them, if the outcome would have been the same anyway? It seems to be a complete non-sequitur.

Big shout out to the coalition again for getting something right.
The new junction 12 layout betwixt the M62 and M60 is a Godsend. The first English motorway improvement scheme this millennium that has actually eased congestion. Probably.
