re. the Nevada rink... our surname is summat quite close to Nevada - in fact, back in the day, before they had separate phone book entries for domestic and business - we were the entry in the Bolton phone book after the Nevada - and people would constantly phone us to make bookings.
after several years of politely giving the correct number - we got fed up and just took the bookings..
so - if any of you ever turned up there and found no booking had actually been made.... sorry!

Well, if we're slumming, The Aspin, Billy Bakers, The Ebony Club, upstairs at Yates's, Wood Street, The Griffin, (One of my relations was landlord there at one time and a cousin was landlord at the Blue Boar) Blue Lagoon on Bridge Street, Beachcomber on Bank Street, Smokey Joe's and Queens in Farnworth, New Zealand Chief, Sally Upsteps on Chorley Old....and a fair few more.Hoboh wrote:Bitch! you beat me there!!!TANGODANCER wrote:As kids, the Bon-Ton toyshop on Halliwell, Carlton and Gem cinemas (Gem had a roller-rink next door). Bit later Palladium on Bridge Street and the Rialto. Empire (the bug-hut) near Waterloo. Johnny Shefield's Temperance Bar. (used to be another temperance bar on Captain's Clough Road, way back).
Had my first taste of dirty beer in The Borough, Saddle and One Horse shoe. Lamb on Halliwell was my local for quite a few years.
Navada roller-rink, and of course,The Palais. Wryton Stadium, Crompton Way Casino, Monaco in Farnworth and the Gaiety in Howfen.
Add Blightys wood street and the immoral sorry balmoral chuck in Kearsley cricket field and the moss up springy road, stink bomb hill and your half road there

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Favourite places in Bolton.
Made my day that. Used to regularly frequent P&B's when I got my pocket money. Me and my mate would cobble it together, get as many sweets as we could and get a film or ps1 game. Happy days.TANGODANCER wrote:If that's the one on the corner of Plodder Lane, Bradford Road, they're still there. Changed it to a video shop and now they run it for their kids as a bathroom outlet. Good to hear they are still knocking about, I had assumed they had gone elsewhere when that Piscean thing first popped up.
