Clubs might not take Cahill for 17M but they may well be more interested on a free. I'm not saying Cahill wouldn't sign a new contract BUT there is nothing to say he will either. Nothing to stop him doing exactly what Elmander did. See his contract out and move on. Thats the delicate position.
Sadly Caps may well be right on this one. Time will tell. I think Coyle has been a bit naive in how he's handled this though the breakdown of the deal with City could not have been envisaged.
Happily, Caps may well be wrong on this one.

There are at least 6 clubs who have done nothing in this TW. Long way to go yet for both outgoings and incomings. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes so I wouldn't condemn OC's handling of the situation just yet.
Our Gary may well do an Anelka and sign an extension if nothing happens this window. If he believes in his ability he'll move anyway - if he has to be on a free to move then perhaps he's not as in demand as we/he likes to think and thus may be a bench sitter at a bigger club. He could just stay and play.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
If it gets to September with no bid for Cahill, it might be worth us offering him a 50% wage increase and a new contract with like a 10-12M release fee.
It's the only way he'd sign another BWFC contract. He certainly won't sign one that ends any chance of his 'dream' move to a top four club, but if we can line his pocket for another 6/12 months with the promise of a reduced release fee- making his move to a top club much more easier, then it is the only way he might be open to it and we can get out of jail and still recoup a decent fee for him.
Still, here's hoping that Cesc/Nasri are sorted in the next week or so and Wenger starts getting pressure to go and spend money.
If those players do go, I'm sure as the main man in midfield and the only real future of the club, Jack Wilshere would have the stroke to be able to go to Wenger and say, 'go and buy Gary Cahill'

Manager has chat with Cahill, puts out noises about new contract (which may well happen if no one pays the price) with a bit of player cooperation, to move things along and either somebody moves in to buy, negotiate or we keep the player and have a good central defender for the season, ( in which case we may have to negotiate new terms anyway). What's lost with a bit of tactical pretence?

Besides, everybody is forgetting about Marcelo

Well they are classed as left backs but are just being played out of position

Anyway none of the listed above are as good as Jimmy (Pegleg) Phillips

Oh well, if their preffered position is Left back on FM, who am I to argue.. Bastos will probably have the letters LB/LWB/LM/AML/AMC beside his name!
I prefer to judge their positions on where they actually play for their clubs and countries, you know.. In real life!

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Loads of Liverpool fans on twitter are talking about some reports that they have/are about to make a 15M bid for Cahill.
Hope it's true. Gis' Danny Wilson on loan too.
Sell. Sell. Sell. Sell. Sell.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Fook that. This is the same Liverpool who spent £35million on Andy Carroll, spent anywhere between £13-20million on Jordan Henderson, and tabled an eye watering £15million bid for Stewart fecking Downing, then when Villa had the brass to turn THAT down, Liverpool are apparently going back with even more than £15million for Stewart fecking Downing. Even they meet his release clause we should ask for a bit more to show they are still 'big boys' or whatever it is they are doing.

Don't forget 7/8 mil for Charlie Adam!Prufrock wrote:Fook that. Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I'd settle for 15 mil with the possibility of a confirmed bid sparking a bidding war between the top 6 clubs. As pressure mounts on Arsene I can imagine him getting out the checkbook and paying big for Cahill (who we're willing to sell) or Samba (who Blackburn still say is ;not for sale').
Think about if if our fans, mere premier league minnows, peasants and a ugly bottom half club
are getting jittery about new singings the Arsenal lot, cream of the crop who define the beautiful game
,must be going mental! Especially seeing the big money City, Man U, Liverpool and soon to be Chelsea are paying out.

Aye - dream scenario. Arsene finally relents and offers 17 mill for Cahill, only to be outbid by a rival.
More money for us and a Wenger tantrum to boot.

Not that it's got anything to do with Cahiil going, but I've just seen this
Impressive tbf144 - Gary Cahill won more aerial challenges than any other defender in the 2010-11 Premier League. Desire.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
just offer him a new contract and get on with it or just lower your asking price. you can t get mad at Arsenal if they dont wanna pay the price, its not like they have been acting like barca and try to destabilize the boy. They properly asked for the price and once they heard decided to move on. thats their right

We've handled this very badly.Abs wrote:just offer him a new contract and get on with it or just lower your asking price. you can t get mad at Arsenal if they dont wanna pay the price, its not like they have been acting like barca and try to destabilize the boy. It seems like we need to sell him in order to get money for transfers this window, so that's not really an option. Plus, after all the quotes coming out of OC he's probably going to want away now and wouldn't sign a contract if we offered it to him.
The catch 22 is that we've been open to selling him for ages now but we want to do it when we have enough time to get replacements/other players. The teams that will probably spend the big bucks will probably only buy for big bucks near the end of the window, so we don't like that as it gives us no time to spend the money.
For the player himself it's a win-win. If he's not sold this window he can hold us to ransom for a better contract or go for a free and get a better contract.
It's awkward for our other central defenders. Is Cahill on the plane to the USA?
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
