Don't like divers.

No - but then I recall one Mr El-Hadji Diouf Vs Blackburn, and all is well with the world. :-)

IF, we are as skint as some would have us believe, I'd be wondering why we were looking to commit to pissing more cash at Davies

Maybe because:

1. OC thinks he's good enough to feature for us for the next couple of years
2. We have nobody else
3. He's increasing his value so he can be sold (to Sam) when our 2 new strikers come in in the next few weeks.

Heart says 1, but head hopes 3.

2 is probably closer to the truth.

From that man again, Iles...

"TRANSFER NEWS! Right from left field... Which player is on his way out of the Reebok this week?"

Update...

It's Danny Ward.

What a load of bollocks.

So much for him being one for the future. Less than 1M too.

Here's hoping it's Cahill although if he's saying it's one not to be expected then I'm abit worried. Hopefully it was quite literal, someone from left field- Taylor or Petrov.
Does he imply that it's not Cahill?

Anyway, we'll know 2 days before he puts it in the BN.

Ooooh, as a pure guess I'd say Muamba or Mark Davies.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

It's Danny Ward who we are selling to Huddersfield. Can Caps and I have our money now?

Bless .... firstly it's not irrational. Try living here & you'd appreciate that ..

Secondly, no, nowt to do with him having been at Cardiff. He IS English, don't forget. Otherwise he couldn't have played for England. Though, in truth, there were many, many more reasons he shouldn't have played for England which are little to do with his nationality.

Over the past 40 years the number of players from outside the top division who've got picked for England are few & far between. There's a reason for that. Very few are up to it. Bothroyd is not an exception to that general rule. Steve Bull .... Wolves' John McGinley really. Great club player, but come on. David Nugent .... q.e.d.

These few, especially strikers, normally follow some media campaign.

He's 29 ... not too old, but not a kid. In his 12 years as a pro he's ammassed around 300 first class games. Mostly at Div2 (old money) level. He's swapped clubs, on average, every 2 years. That suggests he starts hot & then fades. Even at that level his career average is a goal every 3 to 4 games. Very average for a player touted for England and as a potential saviour for us.

He's an exceptionally average player, with a questionable attitude and has had flash-in-the-pan periods throughout his career.

If he's the answer to our prayers then I'm afraid our prayers are off target.

Oh, & then there IS that Welsh connecton .... of course. Though walking out on Cardiff this summer did show a wisdom I hadn't appreciated.

AND it's a stupid surname .... & 'Jay's' a bit nonnie as well.

He doesn't have to be good enough for England to improve us. I saw him earlier in his career and I've seen for for Cardiff and he is a much better player now, his attitude is better and he makes more of an impact. He isn't Anelka, but if we have no money we could do a LOT worse.

So yet another squad player goes. This time for a bit of cash.

Anyone would think we had no money and were desperately scratting around for it. Note the word think in there.

If Ward was ever likely to make it at our level, we'd not be selling him.

As I've said all along he's had the chances on loan to develop and whilst he's looked a solid league one player he's not stood out enough. No point keeping the lad and holding his career back.

Huddersfield just sold Pilkington to Norwich, so Ward will be his replacement so it makes sense.

Big few weeks coming up for Coyle now that IMO will define his time here.

I don't doubt what you are saying but it is a pity that he hasn't been given an opportunity to prove his self at the top level.

What do you think Ward is worth? Didn't we buy him for £1m so we would want at least that. Maybe up to £2m?

I'd say it looks much more like proof we've got no fecking money.

Indeed.

I would imagine after signing Eaves, and handing Tope another contract, thats probably his budget for young squaders in that area used. In the middle of us shedding squad players by the A380-load, and so quickly, it can't just be about him wanting his own players. Its all about context.

Either that, or we're about to unleash the most exciting spending spree this club has ever seen.

If you're struggling for money you'd keep your younger squad players on cheaper wages! As with Al Habsi it wouldn't be fair to keep Ward for him to sit on the bench or be loaned out again. I'll bet a virtual tenner that if the deal goes through Coyle will make reference to 'being fair to the player'. And in this case he would be right.
