Watch him against Liverpool a while back, looks ok at going forward but would fit in well with our other defenders at actually defending! Rash at tackling, always going to ground for a tackle.
Sounds like our man then. Sign him up!

Having turned down a £16m offer (not from us) for Cameron Jerome and Scott Dann, Birmingham accept Wolves' £7m lowball for Roger "England class" Johnson. OK, not entirely BW-shaped, but I think there's enough relevance for it to be mentioned.

I don't really see that coming, we don't really need another RB and he would only be 4th choice behind the three CB's oder the three CM's.

btw: it's Borussia Mönchengladbach, you really should know this team back from the 70s.
Erm yes we do...

Steinsson is possibly the worst right back in the league, and Ricketts' best position is centre back.

If our finances are as fcuked as they could be, theres no way we are bringing a new full back in without first selling one/losing a wage

Ricketts, Steinnson, Alonso, Robinson, Knight, Wheater and Cahill, is probably about right heads wise...7 for 4 places

Someone at work just pointed out to me this tweet from Gartside from earlier today, presumably in response to the twitterati asking him why we haven't signed anyone....
Market very slow at moment still talking with all targets identified early transfer window. Patience is hard for me too
Somewhere in there, there must be a hidden message saying we've got no money. Perhaps if I play it backwards at half speed......

I agree with Steinsson not being exactly what you call world class, but i think he did well replacing Ricketts.
When did Rickets play CB last time? Can't remember that exactly.

btw. if Steinsson is probably the worst RB, then you should see Levels. Honestly i don't see that coming, except someone is leaving.

Obvious innit, we've got rid of the players we don't want and we haven't signed anyone we don't want and this means we're 'avin' a fire-sale

As I've said all along he's had the chances on loan to develop and whilst he's looked a solid league one player he's not stood out enough. No point keeping the lad and holding his career back.

Huddersfield just sold Pilkington to Norwich, so Ward will be his replacement so it makes sense.

Big few weeks coming up for Coyle now that IMO will define his time here.
I don't doubt what you are saying but it is a pity that he hasn't been given an opportunity to prove his self at the top level.

What do you think Ward is worth? Didn't we buy him for £1m so we would want at least that. Maybe up to £2m?
Given his previous success at Huddersfields level Whatever the fee we should be insisting on he insertion of a sell on percentage. That way we get money now for a player that may never be good enough for us. If in a few years he has developed and gets a move to either the championship or indeed the prem as has the man he is replacing has (Pilkington 2m to Norwich) then we won't be feeling as bad as we should re someone like Dzemiali who has just moved for 6M!
As long as the wind blows, fortunes can change.

Hindsight doesnt always prove you wrong - i doubt we'll have wasted time insisting on selling on fees, it doesnt seem like a reluctant sale.

Depoends if it was a desperate purchase... You never know what Huddersfield came along with...

As a general rule, anybody that comes through the youth ranks (even if bought at tender age like Ward or Eaves) should have sell-on clauses; if these players didn't have potential they wouldn't have been there, and just because you're not a Premier-level player in your teens doesn't mean you won't move for a chunk later on.

Take someone like David Norris, whom we sold to Plymouth for £25k + 50% of profit. He proved himself in the second tier and Ipswich were sniffing around with £1m being mentioned. As it happened Plymouth bought out that contract clause - we don't know how much for, but presumably the price suited us.

Buying clubs (smaller) are usually happy to shave the initial cost, while selling clubs (bigger) can afford to get less up front in exchange for the chance of further money when the player develops.

When Cahill was out banned, when Knight was injured/out whatever. Right up to Ricketts injury.

& whenever he did he looked pretty solid. The facts were that Knight looked better alongside Ricketts than when with Cahill.

C'mon Bobo, you're better than that. Your opinion (along with that of many) is that Knight looked better alongside Ricketts than Cahill. There are probably facts that back this up - lack of goals conceded, etc.

You're right .... & that's a fact.

(Still correct though)
