Abs states:
You're right, you dont,( as a supporter you neither make them nor follow them, the club board do it) particularly as to how much Bolton should sell their players for. Must grind a bit though that the winner we got against you not long ago was scored by somebody we just let go as not first eleven material. We don't and never have made the rules, we just follow them.

Nicklas Bendtner is on the verge of ending his Arsenal career, with Borussia Dortmund and Sporting Lisbon in advanced talks over a £9 million deal.
As the squad departed to Malaysia on Sunday for their pre-season tour of Asia, Manuel Almunia was another notable absentee. He has also been given permission to open negotiations on a transfer with Malaga and Atletico Madrid interested in the 35-year-old goalkeeper.
Bendtner and Almunia have each been at Arsenal for seven years but, as manager Arsène Wenger tries to refresh a team who have gone six seasons since winning a trophy, he is willing to allow both to leave.
Gervinho, an Ivory Coast international, is awaiting his work permit and should complete his £10.6 million move from Lille within 48 hours, while Arsenal also hope to sign Spain winger Juan Mata and Bolton defender Gary Cahill.
Arsenal have an interest in Liverpool target Stewart Downing, but it is understood that they have not submitted a formal offer.
Henri Lansbury and Ignasi Miquel, who could potentially move on loan to Bolton as part of any deal for Cahill, have both been omitted from Arsenal’s tour squad.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Sounds promising, although they could just be left out because they are reserves.

They can't both move here on loan!
Sounds like 2+2 = 5.
Presumably Cahill has gone to the US. So a deal can't be that imminent!

With Roger Johnson gone to Wolves and Samba linked with Tottenham for 12 mil, Arsene Wegner's short list of alternatives to Cahill is getting shorter by the day, he'd do well to get in now just in case Chelsea decide to nab him.
EDIT : Also heard Alex may be off to Bayern Munich, that's Chelsea's interest in Cahill potentially strengthened.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Funny, I read the bolded (loan) line that Miquel might come on loan but not that both might. Which, as BWFCi points out, can't happen. It's ambiguous.
Samba to Spurs would help us, I think, as would Johnson to Wolves (and Upson going somewhere). Having more glamorous targets and squadders to shed, Redknapp wouldn't give us the deal we want for Cahill, and having the other options narrowed down should focus the buyers.
BWFCi, didn't OC (via Nixon) say that if there wasn't a deal by last Friday there wouldn't be for a while, due to the US tour?

Not to my knowledge DSB. I believe there was a report from an Arsenal blogger claiming to have met GC in a bar in Chorley and was told by Cahill that there was a 2 week deadline for clubs to agree a fee with Bolton if they want a deal this summer otherwise he was no longer for sale. Sounds far fetched but the bloke did put pictures of himself with Cahill in aforementioned bar. So I guess you're unlikely to do that and then make a ridiculous story up to go with it...who knows. That 2 week deadline would be expiring this week, if it exists. And if it does I can't see it being anything other than some posturing from ourselves to try and get clubs to move. I suppose it could be the point where Gartside says, look Gary there's nobody bid for you yet, hows about looking at some sort of deal.....Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Funny, I read the bolded (loan) line that Miquel might come on loan but not that both might. About a week ago I asked Nixon about the subject via PM on the Rovers site...and all he basically said was that our plans were the same whether Cahill went or not and that the only difference him going might make would be how aggresively we pursued further defenders. Which makes sense. And that our plans to strengthen elsewhere did not depend on selling Cahill. Which is not news as Coyle has already said as much!!

Or perhaps, Chelsea just think that they can do without a defender, so that money would be better use somewhere elsewanderers_on_tour wrote:With Roger Johnson gone to Wolves and Samba linked with Tottenham for 12 mil, Arsene Wegner's short list of alternatives to Cahill is getting shorter by the day, he'd do well to get in now just in case Chelsea decide to nab him.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Maybe but I doubt Chelsea have to be too picky on how many they actually sign so Cahill + 2,3 or 4 others would be a real possibility, i'm guessing Gaz's wages would be towards the lower scale of the Chelsea wage scale too. Also 'england captain' John Terry isn't getting any younger...boltonboris wrote:Or perhaps, Chelsea just think that they can do without a defender, so that money would be better use somewhere elsewanderers_on_tour wrote:With Roger Johnson gone to Wolves and Samba linked with Tottenham for 12 mil, Arsene Wegner's short list of alternatives to Cahill is getting shorter by the day, he'd do well to get in now just in case Chelsea decide to nab him.

It doesn't make much sense, sounds a bit like bollocks. Selling a player for £17mil, or losing him for £0, will really make no difference to who we can bring in?BWFC_Insane wrote:Not to my knowledge DSB. Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I think he was referring to this summer and no further than that. Who knows, It's what coyle has said though, perhaps the targets he wants aren't massively expensive? Maybe they knew all along that it would be hard to get a decent price for Cahill and planned accordingly. As I say Nixon did suggest were Cahill to go we'd be looking at a couple extra players in.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Let's not be too revisionist. Yes Zat Knight is not the world's best defender. Yes he isn't even nearly our best defender, and yes I'd much rather have Wheater and a Cahill/replacement. But he is better than Andy O'Brien. Better than Danny Shittu. Better than Gerald Cid. If he is first choice this season I'll not be overly impressed, and if it is alongside Wheater I'll be terrified, but despite being utterly gash with the ball at his feet, positionally clueless half the time and not good enough in the air for someone his stature, when he does pull it all together he is better than a lot out there. There are definitely bigger priorities than fooking off Knight.

I agree, just expressing that I would prefer a partnership of Cahill/Wheater. But our desire for other positions are more imperativePrufrock wrote:Let's not be too revisionist.
