Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I'm having a fun day going around stopping people getting excited about things. Excited about players coming in. Excited about players being the worst ever. It strikes me as far too much like irreverent fun. And if there is one thing I don't like, it is Man United. And if there is one thing other than Man Utd I don't like it is children. And if there is one thing apart fro.....anyway... not too far down that list of things I don't like, it is other people having irreverent fun.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

the thing that feck* me off about knight is he should be an absolute beast like samba at blackburn or even faye for us back in the day but he's either too timid or too bothered about being cool an winnin crossbar challenge with his skillz n that. If he manned up a bit he'd be a much more effective unit.

I think it's getting more and more likely clubs are just going to wait until he is free

.... or they could leave us royally screwed (in terms of squad numbers) by looking around elsewhere for a 'better' deal until late on deadline day knowing full well that any bid of over £12m would probably be accepted (because he'd be one day away from the last summer transfer window of his BW career, and the board would be loathed to suffer the financial alternative of losing him for nowt), and any bid of £17m would have to be accepted, given the release clause.keveh wrote:I think it's getting more and more likely clubs are just going to wait until he is free

CrazyHorse understands that there are no quotes in that article to substantiate that. It is believed that that's because there are no actual quotes in there. A source close to Hoss confirmed the lack of quotes.David Lee's Hair wrote:http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard- ... -cahill.do?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Its what all managers do, not sure who to sign ask one of the players.
For fooks sake. How did that conversation go down?
"Alright John I'm going to show you pictures of 5 players I want you to tell me which one we should sign."
"Errrr boss have you got pictures of their WAGS instead?"

Not entirely beyond the bounds of possibility that Terry, who's played against Cahill, played alongside him in the national team, trained with him and presumably watched videos of his games, might just think he'd strengthen Chelsea and make the comment. Not saying it happened, but not impossible either.BWFC_Insane wrote:Its what all managers do, not sure who to sign ask one of the players.

It just sounds bollocks to me. Can you imagine any manager apart from Sammy Lee maybe, asking a player for "permission" or the "green light" to sign someone?TANGODANCER wrote:Not entirely beyond the bounds of possibility that Terry, who's played against Cahill, played alongside him in the national team, trained with him and presumably watched videos of his games, might just think he'd strengthen Chelsea and make the comment. I'm not saying Chelsea aren't interested, but you know the same paper reported 3 weeks back that Cahill was "days" from joining Arsenal.
This story is about as far fetched as it gets IMO!
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
There are reports this morning, both here and in Germany, that Arsenal are interested in Per Mertesacker, which may decrease the chances of a Cahill transfer to the Gooners if correct. Can't see this one myself - Mertesacker doesn't strike me as an Arsenal type player. He always looks a bit plodding and one dimensional when I've seen him in internationals, but suppose he must have something to have won so many caps for Germany. Our Gaz is more of a ball player, so would fit into Arsenal's style more easily.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Why would it be any different from asking the opinion of one of his scouts? Or having an agent suggest someone to him? There are plenty of stories of players recommending a possible signing to a manger. IIRC Bergsson did so with Steinsson.BWFC_Insane wrote:Its what all managers do, not sure who to sign ask one of the players.

It's been fairly widely reported that Villas Boas is in the market for an English centre half. Why wouldn't he ask the opinion of the England captain?

Abrahmovic > Terry > Chelsea Board Members > Few other senior players (Lampard/Drogba et al.) > Manager > Rest of the squad

When it's a story rather than a rumour. Like you, most fans (and readers) are getting ever better at filtering the fantasy.Rodney Trotter wrote:When does a transfer story ever contain quotes?CrazyHorse wrote:CrazyHorse understands that there are no quotes in that article to substantiate that. Bolton have been linked with a sensational 11th hour swoop for talented hitman Robin Van Persie. According to sources it has always been his dream to play for Bolton. Coyle has been looking for backup for his talented duo, Kevin Davies and Danny Ward, and is thrilled to have snared his man. I could tile your bathroom for £590 not including VAT.
will that do?
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
there's quite a lot of noise across the airwaves today about Chelsea getting more serious about Cahill... of course one source copies from another - but it is already widespread...
a taster...

a taster...
emirates 24/7:
Guardian:Chelsea could outdo Arsenal in the £17m race to land Bolton's Gary Cahill.
According to the Sun, new Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas wants an English centre-back to boost his squad next season.
He has been checking out the claims of Everton's Jack Rodwell, Birmingham's Scott Dann and Cahill.
Villas-Boas is ready to make a decision and sources close to Chelsea believe he will opt for 25-year-old England ace Cahill.
How proud Gary Cahill must have felt when he woke up this morning. Not just in the "HELLO LADIES!" sense, either. Cahill could not have felt prouder had he been knighted, revealed as the second coming, been referenced in a Half Man Half Biscuit song, found a pound on the underground, and been the subject of some frisky tweets from Sabine Lisicki. For our snout tells us that Cahill has achieved something even more precious: he has earned the respect of John Terry.
Terry, the Chelsea manager and the world's first player-manager-referee, has apparently told his assistant André Villas-Boas to sign Cahill. Chelsea are also looking at human beard Daniele De Rossi to replace habitual knack-sufferer Michael Essien, although that doesn't affect their attempt to woo Luka Modric by whispering sweet nothings while discreetly shoving obscene amounts of cash down his pants.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
presumably time is a healer and Chelsea have forgotten about the last shit-hot centre-back we sold them!
