If God's reading this, please will he settle the argument once and for all and stop just lurking?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I don't agree and you don't recall correctly but as some have said, its pointless arguing with you. You can have the last word hun... (though i will take up the challenge of that 1500m race - you on?!thebish wrote:fair enough - but I have seen the photos...Gooner Girl wrote:How do you know?! You've never been to my church.thebish wrote:not in the way you do them they aren't...Gooner Girl wrote:I agree, not everything in the bible should be take literally but given the ideas of dedication and BELIEVERS baptism are in the bible why do you need an alternative that isn't?
here's the new testament biblical model..
the man is the head of the household - if he decides to convert to christianity, then he will and all his household with them (whether they like it or not - that's irrelevant because their view doesn't count.) He and his wife and his children and babies were then all baptised - some say also his servants. The ceremony was conducted by a man - it would have been unthinkable for a woman to do it.
if your dedication ceremony was anything like that - then do enlighten me... (not that infant dedication appears anywhere in the bible in its own right.)
(you have posted photos - and it looks suspiciously like a woman conducted the ceremony - which isn't "biblical" - and IIRC - you said MrGG wasn't bothered either way and it was your choice. neither do I see any water being used - and I don't believe there is any "biblical" ceremony that doesn't include water symbolism...)
given the "biblical" model described above - I am very happy indeed to operate in a 21st century way and not lose that much sleep over whether something fits into a neat box called "biblical" or not.

Yes, "poor Tango" is around, but the Bish's "arguments" are just his opinions, which he's allowed to have, otherwise I couldn't also have mine. Simple.Gooner Girl wrote:Nope bish, am not gonna rise, I know you love an argument but poor Tango is probably around for that

For what it's worth, and risking the derision, to clarify:
Christians are baptized. I'm not inclined to look up exactly where the term Christening, or the naming and promising etc appeared in the ceremony, but Christian belief is that we are all born stained with original sin (goes back to Adam and Eve disobeying God's order not to partake of the forbidden fruit). Jesus said: "
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God". So children are baptized as soon as possible after birth to comply with that belief and free then from that same original sin. Inviting the family round, beer food and photographs are just incidentals.
Not a lecture, not an attempt at conversion, just how Christians see it. You can live your lives as you will and partake of the full banquet. Your choice. It's just that when they're over we just can't get our heads around the fact that nobody will come round with the bill.
Amen. Stated without any anger, so it shouldn't really be in here, and as you all were.

I've yet to hear of a tale that hasn't left me thinking 'well serves you right' but I'm open minded, so off you go

my sister is over from canada in the UK - I am conducting her wedding service on saturday. her son (and 1yr old grandson) has just arrived at heathrow from canada to be here for the wedding. on the flight someone stole his bag containing all his papers and his wallet. because he has no travel papers - he has been instantly deported back to canada with no money and no papers... my sister is in tears...
