Indeed but for all you know it could be that he focussed on Jeffren until NGog came up, and then decided he'd rather have NGog. It may be that there is still a chance with Jeffren but since NGog came up Coyle would rather focus his money on that.

Oh and we've not made any bid or approach for SWP. We were only going to look at a loan possibility later in the summer, if he was still available and Citeh couldn't shift him elsewhere. So I don't think anyone is a backup plan to SWP!
If thats the case it just always seems rather strange that we sign the players we're linked with later in the window with relative ease...;) Chase Jeffren for a year, then just give up because Ngog came up?
We've had him and others scouted for a year, which is a different thing entirely.

We bid for NGog last summer. So you could argue that we've been chasing him longer than Jeffren.

And we haven't signed anyone easily, all deals are up in the air at the minute, we've agreed some fees, for the Burnley pair and thats it. No personal terms agreed or owt yet. And the reason for the fee being agreed now is as I outlined because they've told Burnley they won't extend their contracts!

I reckon N'gog, playing every game (as he would if he came to us with our current squad) would score as many, if not more, than Elmander did last year.

He's quick, he has shown he can finish, and I just think a run of 90 minute games out of him and £3-5 million might look like an absolute steal.

Just an opinion, like.

Loan to buy HAS to be the best option here.

Aye, but Liverpool need the money now to invest in further signings, apparently.

I doubt we'll get NGog, he seems happy to see his deal at Liverpool out!

The thing with Jeffren and Coyle even mentioned it during the article in the Bolton (Evening) News is that having agreed the fee with Barce his agent or representatives have not been in contact.

So Coyle has rightly said 'we'll move on'.
Pfffft.

I'm not sure he's quite said that... I wouldn't be massively surprised if Coyle has just hinted it's off just to take some of the heat/pressure out of it - then he can get on and tie it all up before surprising us all...

Coyle's comments in the Bolton News included something along the lines " if the lad doesn't want to play for this club then we don't want him". Come on Owen, get real. Nobody WANTS to play for us - those that do are either settled round here and don't want to move their familes or think they aren't up to getting a better deal elsewhere. Even most of us fans don't WANT to support Bolton Wanderers - for most it's an affliction that's given to us at birth and, musch as we might search for a cure, it's impossible to find one

Certainly

However, there needs to be a caveat that

1a) we get first dibs and
1b) the price is agreed now

See Ali Al Habsi for the reasons why

That was implied.

Love the word 'caveat' though

Why is that oft the answer if someone criticises BWFC?

It's sooooo lazy

We should be thankful for the likes of Mears and Eagles because they're better than Nicky Spooner and Paul Compstive

Errm ok :D
The only thing that matters is that they're better than the likes of O'Brian and Riga because that's who they'll be replacing.

What would be the point in replacing players that didn't look likely to feature?

And spending £3m for the privilege

Strikes me that OC would see them more involved than that

And that's what worries me

PS. I know I'm new, but I'm not normally this negative

No point buying anyone unless you think they can be first choice in their position.
