Just to point out, Mears, Eagles, they haven't signed yet!
Still discussing terms! As the Burnley press point out, Eagles was all set for Rangers last year but couldn't agree terms.

Perhaps we should start the season with one recognised right back then.Anton Fingers wrote:What would be the point in replacing players that didn't look likely to feature?

He turned down £17,000 per week with them, an increase on the £12,000 that he (and Mears) currently earns.
He'd take less from us, defo. Doesn't then have to pay for his expensive flash cars to be transported to that hellhole.

Probably agree with that, but you know, not a done deal yet at all. BWFC always have the potential to cock things up!Lofthouse Lower wrote:BWFC >>> RangersBWFC_Insane wrote:Just to point out, Mears, Eagles, they haven't signed yet!

Nobody WANTS to play for us - those that do are either settled round here and don't want to move their familes or think they aren't up to getting a better deal elsewhere. Even most of us fans don't WANT to support Bolton Wanderers - for most it's an affliction that's given to us at birth and, musch as we might search for a cure, it's impossible to find one
Coyle's quotes were:
"I don't wait and see with anyone. Either you want to play for this football club, or you don't.
I have not talked to Jeffren or his representatives, so the story makes it out that it's a bit further down the line than it is, but if it isn't going to happen, then we'll move on."
doesn't sound like someone definitely moving on to me...

Perhaps if you looked a little deeper than just the superficial literal level, you'd see a hint, a nuance......go on, give it a go.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I thought I'd simplify it
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
David Wheater. Marcos Alonso. Rodrigo. Ivan Klasnic. Martin Petrov.Lofthouse Lower wrote:No point buying anyone unless you think they can be first choice in their position.BL3 wrote:Mears has been signed to provide competition for him. Anyway, of the latest crop of transfer rumours, N'Gog is the best striker we've been linked with this summer. That's not difficult, but at least it's something.
Mears will do a job, but he's no improvement and we don't need him. Eagles isn't good enough.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Really? So who deputises at right back if Steinsson is injured? Wheater?Tombwfc wrote:Mears will do a job, but he's no improvement and we don't need him. Eagles isn't good enough.
It's easy to slag players off. Less easy to say who you would have signed for the money available.

Who plays right wing if LCY is out? Who plays right back if Steinsson is out? We need a squad. Might have had a chance against Stoke if we'd had one last year!
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
No. They are all players we've signed in the past 12 months, only Petrov went straight into the first team, and even he lost his place soon enough. There's no particular reason to suggest Mears will be first choice.Lofthouse Lower wrote: Are we just listing players?
And unless Mears and Eagles are the only two players on the planet who play in their positions, the idea that 'they're better than having no squad at all', doesn't really add up. My opinion is that Eagles isn't good enough for the Premier League, that doesn't change regardless of how many players we currently have who play in his position.
Equally, the idea that the only possible solution to Ricketts being injured for a few months is to chuck a 3/4 year deal at a player who can play no other position is complete bollocks.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Zing on that one BWFCi, every team needs competition for places. Coyle is doing the right thing in my book. COYWM!BWFC_Insane wrote:Tombwfc wrote:David Wheater. Marcos Alonso. Rodrigo. Ivan Klasnic. If you think we'd have beaten Stoke if we'd have had Mears and Eagles, with respect, you must be on crackBWFC_Insane wrote:Tombwfc wrote:David Wheater. Marcos Alonso. Rodrigo. Ivan Klasnic. If CYL is out we have a belting player who can play on the right in the form of Mark Davies and Ricardo Gardner could adequately reserve there
In terms of RB, I think our best is Sam Ricketts, but obviously with him it's a question of fitness; what's the point of us having 3 RB's when he is fit again though? If we're that unsure, why not try and get a loanee in as short term cover rather than a player that's arguably worse than what we have already...and we have Wheater, Knight and Cahill that aren't all going to start as CB's....yes I know Cahill may go, but that's where we are right now.
I'm not saying any of the above is ideal and if we had lots of money, then yep get Mears and Eagles in, but if our resource is scarce, why spend it on "fillers"?
Someone has posted that they're both currently on £12k per week; that's not pocket change even without a rise in wages for players that don't appear to look like forst team regulars......or will they be??
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Unless Ricketts is seen as a centre back by Coyle, and therefore when Cahill goes, Rickets/Knight/Wheater to pick from for the back two.Tombwfc wrote:Equally, the idea that the only possible solution to Ricketts being injured for a few months is to chuck a 3/4 year deal at a player who can play no other position is complete bollocks.

Reo-Coker has agreed terms, if you believe what you read on SkySports... which isn't the worst source in the world.
Skysports.com understands that Nigel Reo-Coker has agreed terms with Bolton ahead of a likely switch to the Reebok Stadium.
The midfielder has attracted widespread interest since being released by Aston Villa earlier in the summer, with a number of clubs both at home and abroad keeping tabs on his situation.
A move to Italy, Germany, Spain or France appeared possible, before Bolton entered the chase to sign Reo-Coker a few days ago.
Skysports.com revealed over the weekend that he had travelled to the North West to hold talks with Bolton and it is now understood that a deal has been struck.
The Trotters are now set to finalise the signing of the 27-year-old with an announcement expected in the near future.
