Bloody hell....I moan more than anyone but even I'm quite happy with Reo Coker & Eagles, I doubt that we could have brought in players much better without paying huge fee's - I don't think Messi & Ronaldo would fancy coming to BoltonChoppers wrote:If we've agreed terms with him, I mean...it's done.
Eagles, Mears and Reo-Coker.
Tell me that you didn't have loftier ambitions a month ago?
We just need that pacy striker or hopefully even two and we'll be sorted....our midfield options are much better than we've had for a good few years when you add in Holden, Pratley & M Davies

Lord Kangana wrote:Coyle knows these two. They play in a division below and haven't much Prem experience, though a little. And they are at a club that has a stated aim of balancing the books.
In short, they'd be cheaper than any of the other options subsequently mentioned, without any commensurate drop in quality.
I'd imagine its that simple.
You have absolutely no evidence at all to back that up. Assuming we meant sign Billy Jones before he went to West Brom, he was on a free transfer, from a now League 1 club, and Puncheon would be from club just promoted from League 1. Complete guesswork but I'd reckon their wages would be lower, and their combined fees lower than Mears and Eagles.
That Coyle knows them I think is much more pertinent. Still doesn't change my opinion that Eagles isn't good enough and Mears not a priority, but hey ho. I'm not despondent.

From what I've been told Mears and Eagles only started negotiating this afternoon. Perhaps it was really quick but I'd be surprised if they have been sorted yet. When the bid was accepted they were in Torquay with the Burnley squad!officer_dibble wrote:At least we won't see Gardner in centre mid this year, now can we try him at left back instead of Alonso (who is more than likely going to be useless for us in 6 months by the sounds of it)?
I'd be a bit perturbed if we can't agree with Mears/Eagles given where they are now! Its hardly a sideways move is it?
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Reo-Coker on the other hand I'm almost delighted about. Only nagging doubt is that with Holden, Mark Davies, Muamba and Pratley, another central midfielder seems like too many resources focussed on an area we are well stocked, whilst we have only Petrov, Lee, Klasnic and Davies in the whole 'sticking it in the net' areas.

We were f*cked last season for squad depth in midfield with the same number of central midfielders. You wanted evidence I recall?

Muamba only made 3 tackles per game? I'm not having that.

My concern isn't with the player that much (I trust that Coyle thinks he can get the best out of him), it is with the fact we're signing players in every position but up front. Still.
Pratley just signed, now Reo-Coker.
Holden is a definite start when he's back, Coyle is stuck with 4-4-2...so I don't think we'll be seeing much of Muamba or Mark Davies for a while.

Could Coyle be planning a change of formation away from home? I hope so
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
I also think it begs the question of why we re-signed Gardner. It seems he's a central midfielder nowadays, and I'd imagine he's not on small wages, just by nature of how long he's played for us alone...

We didn't have the same number of midfielders; well, we did if you include Cohen, who was so distrusted by the management that Elmander was preferred there, which was the problem. It all depends on quite how dedicated OC is to his 4-4-2. If it is as steadfast as it seems, the four mentioned plus emergency Gardner seem enough considered against two strikers and two midfielders. If OC is quietly deciding, like his hero, and like his coaching pal AVB, that 4-2-3-1 (he played it at least once, away at Stoke, though it didn't work, and we changed) has it's values, and given we look pretty fooked striker wise, then Pratley seems made for the middle of the '3'. If we are looking at that away from home, I would be delighted. If we are looking at that, I can see the need for another CM, and if that is Nireoker, then I'm chuffed.
We still need wingers and two strikers, at least one of whom needs to be a 'now' player.
As for the evidence I wanted some that suggested Mears and Eagles are cheaper than Tom's (and indeed, other) alternatives.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
We rid ourselves of JOB and Cohen. And Taylor. We are hoping to bring in Reo Coker, Eagles and have Pratley. Its not rocket science. I see that as an on balance improvement of our midfield squad. We got rid of JLo, and have Mears. I'll bet all the tea in China, India, Ceylon and where ever else they make tea that Mears is on less than JLo. And that Eagles will be on less than Taylor.
In short, I believe we will try and get a loan forward in now, rather than a signing, because Reo Coker's wages will have predominantly taken up the Elmander slack. Without the whopping great fee.

I'll bet our Gary's on a fair whack so if he goes we may be able to buy a striker + a loaner.

Potentially explaining Mears in, so Ricketts can cover CH. I'd prefer to get someone else in, but if we have a choice, then striker it is.Wandering Willy wrote:I'll bet our Gary's on a fair whack so if he goes we may be able to buy a striker + a loaner.

Only trouble with that theory is that we already have a confirmed 5m bid in for Jeffren and by several sources a 4m bid in for NGog. On top of the 3m confirmed bid we have for the Burnley pair. Two days ago you were saying we didn't have a pot to piss in and wouldnt sign one more player other than loans.Lord Kangana wrote:We rid ourselves of JOB and Cohen. And Taylor. If Cahill goes for anything like we want, I've always assumed we'd replace him with a cheaper model leaving money for the new striker. I see Mears as a back up.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
We lost JOB, Cohen and Taylor.
Talking central midfielders JOB and Cohen were never considered good enough to play regularly. We had three that were considered good enough. Holden, Muamba, and Mark Davies. The problems came when two were unavailable at the same time. IMO four central midfielders, plus Gardner as desperate cover is enough at this level. Muamba, Mark Davies, Holden and Pratley are all trustworthy players in that position. Sure, to add a player of Nireoker's stature would be great, but at what expense. We have two wingers: Petrov and Lee, and two strikers: SKD and Klasnic. Of those four, one has never shown himself as capable of 90 mins week in week out, one is our ageing captain and one has just had a woefully disappointing debut season. We have absolutely no cover for Lee and Petrov, and that fails to take into account Petrov has been wank so far. If we could get in two wingers capable of challenging, and two strikers capable of challenging AND Nireoker, then I'd be delighted, but I don't think we will (coz I reckon we're skint).
Of Nireoker, Mears, and Eagles, the one I rate the least is Eagles, he is also the one I can understand signing the most.

Where the hummer does Sean Davis fit into all this midfield malarkey?
I'd rather support Bolton than be you.
