Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Thats more the angle I'm coming from. In an ideal world, we have the (potentially) five midfielders we have for at least a season. Hopefully that gives Muamba a chance to play with more regular quality partners and a chance of a rest. Last season he was our mainstay, indeed our only mainstay, and by the end it showed.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Muamba is one of the players they got to model the new home shirt and he's one of the ones they send to the Bolton News, so from that perspective it'd be surprising if he went.
Having said that, he's been quiet recently.

I'll just go and check who's in the club calendar for September - he'll be the one that's going...
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
If somebody happens to come in with a big bid for Muamba, then ok. I wouldn't go hawking him around to other clubs though. We'd be selling him on the back of a fairly disapointing season, and wouldn't get the money we could be in for if we stick with him. All so we can swap him for a (at best) marginally better, older player.
That said, Reo-Coker is a good player and I'm happy if he comes. This 4-4-2 obsession is looking like it's going to have to come to an end though. Muamba, Reo-Coker and Pratley/Davies in a triangle behind Davies is overwhelmingly the best option we have with our current set of players. Even if we signed N'Gog I think we'd be better setting up that way with him, Chung and Davies in a front three.
It's the makings of a half decent team if the captain turns up and we don't have Knight and Wheater at the back.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
To try put everything in perspective, we didn't do half bad last season. First few months everything was peachy then as the season went on the lack of our depth really started to show, highlighted by the Stoke game in Wembley.
In that game we lacked 2 of the key ingredients to our success.
1) No Holden (or a similar central midfielder who's good at his feet and works his socks off)
and..
2) No sturridge (or a similar pacey striker capable of putting the ball in the net)
Therefore looking completely toothless and allowing Stoke to come forward all guns blazing without fear of a counter or leaving themselves exposed at the back.
To try rectify this Coyle has done the following. 1) Brought in 2 central midfielders who are also good with the ball and don't mind putting in a shift in,Pratley and NRC, and is actively working on 2) with proposed moves for N'Gog and Jeffren.
Yes a few fringe players have gone (Rodrigo, Cohen, Jloyd etc.) and even Taylor struggled to get on the pitch until Petrov got a huge case of 'cant be arsed'. But except for Matty (who appears to have been replaced with a like for like, glandular fever less/non smoking, and younger Chris Eagles) the only other permanent signing to leave that could get into our starting 11 week in/week out is Johan 'not good enough to play his favored position' Elmander.
This transfer Window we don't need to rebuild completely from the bottom up, we have a good base that jus needs the odd tweaking here and there and is something I feel Coyle is doing well!

Coyle closing in on quartet of Bolton signings
Published 23:00 25/07/11 By Alan Nixon
Nigel Reo-Coker is signing for Bolton today as busy boss Owen Coyle tries to pull off four deals in a week.
Midfielder Reo-Coker, released this summer by Aston Villa, has decided to take the contract on offer at Wanderers rather than wait for potentially bigger deals that may not materialise.
Coyle has talked him into the switch and Reo-Coker is poised to join on a three-year deal after a medical today.
Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears are also moving to Bolton from Coyle's former club Burnley in a £2.75million double deal, and the manager still wants to add a striker.
The Bolton chief will not meet Liverpool’s £6m valuation on David Ngog, however, so may try to push through a deal for Birmingham's Cameron Jerome instead.

Wasn't Birmingham's valuation for Jerome alot higher than 6 mil??

I'm 90% sure that continually linking us with Cameron Jerome is part of an ongoing office bet with the journos at the Mirror.

So, NiRCoker - Signed ? or not ? 206 for one at the moment. But maybe a quick collapse to, say, 210 for 4 by mid week
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Suddenly David N'Gog is looking pretty fecking good isn't he!
Surely we won't sign Jerome. Although perhaps it might be worth bunging in a cheeky 1-2M offer for him. Birmingham are six months away from administration according to people I talk to.

I wouldn't be suprised if Nixon is linking us with Jerome to try and get Liverpool into accepting a lower bid from us.
I bet he did that when he was linking Al Habsi with Villa so Wigan would make a higher bid.
The vital word linking us with Jerome is "may try to push through a deal"
Or is this all wishful thinking

I think he just pulled it out of his arse to be honest. If he had any inside information he'd have wrote an 'Exclusive' article about it.

At the end of the day he is a journo and needs something to fill the pages, even if its all shite
He also can't go crawling to Owen every day and ask for the latest scoop, as others on here have said you do get the feeling that Nixon is still Owens personal spokes person and as such you'd think any story Nixon publishes has probably had the ok first.
RT's idea about using Jerome to spark Liverpool into an agreement over N'Gog could also be spot on.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
I find it interesting the opinion here on signing Mears. A couple of years ago under a previous manager, people on here were seeing red due to the amount of fullbacks that he signed. Now we are going to sign Mears who is a right back and nothing else. So we will have Steinsson, Ricketts, Mears not to mention Connolly who has played there in a couple of friendlies as well as Reo Coker who has played very well there previously and worse comes to worse we have even seen Robinson play there.
I'm not saying Mears is a bad signing but that he is just not needed with the situation we are in. If we had decent depth around the park then maybe bring him in and maybe try to shift out Steinsson but at the moment it doesn't seem necessary not to mention he is 28 as well. People saying well what happens if Steinsson gets injured? Well what happens if Petrov gets injured? What happens if any forward at the moment gets injured? We have no depth there at all. It seems to me any money spent on Mears could be better used elsewhere.
If we bring in NRC, Mears and Eagles thats all well and good just as long as we make sure we sign a striker ( i really think we need 2 though) and some back up for Petrov.
I hate to sound horribly negative because as it stands i'm right behind Coyle and i'm behind the attempts/successes to sign the likes of Pratley, NRC, N'Gog and Eagles to an extent so i'll back Coyle and judge him on a whole at the end of the transfer silly season, just at the moment the Mears signing is one that really doesn' make much sense to me.

Fact is if Megson had signed any of the players Coyle is trying to, he'd have been lambasted.pagey_BWFC wrote:I find it interesting the opinion here on signing Mears. That doesn't mean they are the wrong players. For the first time since Coyle has been here I can see a coherent and sensible transfer strategy in the targets he's going for. Only major area of concern right now (IF those 3 sign) is upfront. Can't see us paying 6M for NGog and Jerome will be way too expensive for what he is. For 2-3M he'd be ok as a more mobile KD any more than that then no. Having been keen on Spanish raids Coyle seems to have suddenly gone British!
As an aside I see Goodwillie was cleared of his rape charge yesterday. I wonder if Coyle might make a bid??

What an absolute load of bollox.
Coyle has clearly had far less money than Grima Wormtongue. And unlike the ginger moron, hasn't had the temerity to suggest he had to spunk loads of cash on rebuilding the entire squad. Well we're finding out about that rebuilding about now, as its the bloated nature of the squad that has to be trimmed to make way for decent players.
