How did the team play and more importantly how did the new players perform?
Reo-Coker and Eagles both played well, did Meares play? I couldn't really see from where I was sat.
According to the text updates he did.

Had to miss all the second half of the commentary but glad we won. Never to early to get into winning ways. Must have been like the cup final for Bury, although they seemed to play quite well.

We looked quite decent second half. It was noticeable that we played some very nice stuff with Eagles playing off Klasnic. NRC will be by some considerable distance our best fit midfield player. Pratley was tidy but not as eye catching as Saturday. Liked the look of Eagles off the front man. Klasnic looks really sharp and much fitter as does Petrov. Time will tell with those two once we play proper teams in proper games. There is promise. Still need something up front and nothing in pre season will convince me otherwise. If we get some pace up front we could be a really useful side!

Petrov looked a completely different player to last season.
Really impressed by how sharp he looked.

Yeah, NRC looked very impressive, never gave the ball away. Same can't be said for Eagles, but he played okay. Mears appeared to be very quick but got caught a couple of times.

To be fair though, Bury were pretty shit.

Just got back from Bury.
Really good atmosphere, nice to see alot of whites there! Good to be winning.
Petrov did really well, still looking sharp, hopefully his second season will be much better than his first.
Davies looks like he's getting back into the swing of things and Klasnic seems to be putting in a lot of effort.
Nice to see the new signings, feeling much more ready for next year BUT we need at least one more striker. Nigel Reo-Coker was solid, Eagles played reasonably well and Mears seemed pretty competant, but wasn't tested too much.
Interesting to see Alonso on the wing too, looked better there than when he's played full back.
I'm very worried about us on the break though, even Bury at times looked like they were able to pull off one against us, Robbo played the majority of the game up front and on the wing, which was ok when covered by Gardner and Alonso.

Just got back, good atmosphere apart from the frequent attempts to get the Whos That Dying On The Runway crap going over and over again, im sure its been discussed many tiimes before but its pathetic - sure we'd have something to say if opposition fans started singing distasteful songs about Nat Lofthouse.

Anyhow, decent performance, although I wasnt as impressed with Eagles as others seem to be he was a bit wasteful, I did like the look of Reo Coker though and I think he's a potential starter for us, watch your back Muamba! Missed the second goal as I was on the loo, but otherwise pretty good. Away kit is good too!

I wasn't impressed by that either, but it happens. On the plus side we made a lot of noise, although we were running through some odd old chants, weren't we? We all dream of a team of Nicky Hunts, Jay Jay Okocha etc, heard We have Willie Willie Willie Willie Morgan on the wing too!

Eagles off the main striker, eh? That's the main tactical difference betwixt 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1...

This 4-5-1/4-4-1 we seem to be leaning against really looks like it could be useful, especially away from home. Just need another striker up front (maybe 2 if we can a good loan deal on somebody) and we'll be pretty set!

We didn't look like a team that, in the second half, had never played (or even trained??) together despite the limited opposition. On a side note, should he leave, i'm going to miss Gary Cahill. Looked a class apart today

I thought that as well but other fans will be doing that and ALOT worse. As an aside I don't think our fans meant anything by it, nearly everyone applauded him when he was on the wing, just some people have a slightly warped sense of humour.

I take it they were related to his upcoming court case?

Something about his driving, can't remember the exact chant though.

The Alonso chants weren't great, but were obviously meant in good humour, could have been much worse.
Another point, thought it was interesting Cahill played and Wheater didn't get a chance. I may be reading too much into it, but if we thought he was going to go, surely we'd be playing Wheater as much as possible to make sure he's ready to step into his shoes?

If it had just been a crash I don't think I'd have really bothered about the chants, it's just didn't somebody die? Something I'd have expected from opposition fans and not our own.
