The Eagles has landed...

.... and Mears as well.

Bolton Wanderers have completed the signings of Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears from Burnley.

Eagles, a 25-year-old midfielder, and Mears, a 28-year-old defender, have both agreed three year deals with the Club.

Manager Owen Coyle said : "Both Chris and Tyrone are top players, and have shown that they have the ability to compete successfully at the highest level.

"I have worked with them both before and know what they will bring to the club in terms of character and commitment and along with Nigel Reo Coker, we have added real quality to the squad."

Eagles, who previously worked with Coyle at Burnley added: "I know a few of the lads already, like the skipper and Stuart. I know that it is a good squad so the challenge for me will be to work hard and then look to contribute. I am an attacking midfielder and I will certainly be looking to chip in with some goals."

"I'm obviously very happy the deal has been concluded," former Burnley, Derby and Manchester City defender Mears added. "I'm really looking forward to working with a manager I've worked with before and playing in the Premier League. From the outside looking in, this has seemed like it is a club going in the right direction. It wasn't a difficult decision at all. I know exactly what the manager expects from his players and I'm more than ready for it."

Pleased.

A new right back to displace that utter tramp Steinsson, and someone to push the two wingers a bit. Unspectacular, but solid enough I suppose.

Now, a new centre half, a new left back and three new strikers please. £20m should about cover it - I've written to those fat Scottish lottery winners for a loan, will let you know how I get on.

I'm pleased with this as well, I think that Eagles definitely has something to offer. He can play on both wings to can either replace Petrov when he can't last the whole 90 minutes, then cover for CYL when he pisses off to the Asia cup.

Mears I'm not so sure about, I've not seen enough of him to comment so I'll look forward to seeing what he can do.

Eagles, who previously worked with Coyle at Burnley added ... "I am an attacking midfielder and I will certainly be looking to chip in with some goals."

Interesting quote. Has Gartside asked him to say that in case we don't get a new striker?!

Anyway - very pleased. Taylor out for roughly the same price as these two in. Good business, that.
Formerly known as Meg'sEleven. And Owen'sEleven. And Dougie'sEleven. We're getting through them aren't we...

Don't think that's for another 3 years.

Only top players eh?

Fooking hope not. 3 in his Prem career doesn't exactly ring of "prolific".

Anyhoo. Good luck to both of 'em. :-)

Got a fair few last season though. Mainly played off their striker and scored a few so that's encouraging! Mind the same things we are laughing at Fat Sam for could be levelled at us now ex Burnley manager and coaching staff plus three ex players. Come to think of it we also have three ex Villa players knocking around. Coyle must like his clarets!

If he'd left Burnley 4 years ago, you'd be right.

I'd rather have Reo Coker than Cohen or JOB, if we're trying to make comparisons.

I'd say Eagles is kind of an Elmander replacement, versatile attacking player. Roe Coker is better than owt we've got or had bar possibly Holden, though a different kind of player. Couple of strikers, and Coyle has said he wants two, and we will be reet. I can see maybe one buy and one loan.

I could see this panning out like last year, where we get one, and a loanee doesn't turn up till Jan (when they realise they've not actually risen up the pecking order at the Club they're now at).

Not unhappy so far with the dealings, but will be really disappointed if we start the season with our current forward line.
