As an aside to all this, i hope OC values Jerome at around 27p.

You're just jealous.

A good manager such as OC should not just say naa he's only worth 3m im not paying 4m he should also think that he can develop and bring them on, so that as a resaleable asset he would have increased their value to at least what he paid for them. If its 3 or 4m out in price, well fine we but should in that case drop immediate interest and purse others actively within our budget, not wait til August 28th and ask liverpool again if they'll take 3m...thats insanity.
But a good manager like Coyle will be able to judge what is reasonable and also has to balance out the risks. That's why we have him for his judgement. Remember he may decide that what NGog would add isn't worth 4M to us and that if worst comes to worst we can survive how we are till January and MIGHT decide that is longer term better than blowing extra just to get NGog. He may also feel that we can pick up a stop gap loan or even get NGog cheaper at a later date. In short with his knowledge it will never be an absolute we 'absolutely must sign this player or were going down situation'!

Coyle is the one will will be judged by the signings and how they work out.... I'm quite glad he's got at least a modicum of caution flowing in his veins...

I know...its just this 'stop gap' and 'later date' part that bothers me. At what point after going from stop-gap to stop-gap do we realise that, far from saving money, we're pissing it down the drain? Rather like renting when you have the money to buy, but wont pay the price of the house because you think its overpriced. As Bish said, we've been lucky with late loans recently, but i mean Sturridge drove himself from london to bolton a few days before end of TW because he was determined to take the chance - we'll get to a stage where we're not so lucky, and end up with another bloody whatsisname , not Smolarek the other lad god what was he called??

So he won't pay over the odds and he'll only pay what he thinks certain players are worth, even though the Chairman has given him money to spend on these 2 quality strikers that we desperately need - but he wants £17M for Cahill....!!

Seems a tad hypocritical to me from OC

On another note I'd have Barton in a shot....sell Muamba buy Barton

Don't slag him off or Sir Nut'll be after you... Makukula... Though I'd be more worried if we ended up with another Nishzawa

I like the caution, but he seems to ride that fine line i.e. with the Vela agent, pulling that deal. I know he'll get a rep and thats good as we know only serious players and agents will deal with him - as long as he doesnt let it go too far too late.

Not really.
OC said rather than wrote:I intend to get value for money and want to do the best I can for the football club. [...] I think that we as a club are being ripped off [...] I treat that money like it is my own [...] I have to get the best value because it's Eddie's money
I'd rather have that kind of "hypocrisy" than, saying, running clubs into the ground then skipping off somewhere new whilst also acting a manner likely to attract the attention of HMRC. If you see what I mean.

BWFCi, yep – I wrote the FFT BW preview (and William the White did the fan bit), before we signed Reo-Coker or the Burnley pair. It's not available free online. We have jobs to keep.

Aye but e alternative is you blow your budget on a player who sounds good, should be good, but doesn't work out and end up wishing you'd kept your cash becaue 6 months later a far better and cheaper option arises but you have no space to do the deal!
