I run a similar theory with Knight. I just accept that the guy's absolutely fecking shite, ergo - avoiding disappointment.Tombwfc wrote:Most Disappointing Player I have no expectations for Petrov to disapoint, so I'll say Eagles

Re: Prediction Time
BWFC
Final Position Anywhere from 8th to 15th depending on those first 7 games, if we sign a striker, and who else gets injured
Standout Player I'm really hoping that Pratley comes good. Looks the part of the modern midfield general.
Most Disappointing Player Muamba. Sadly. I really want him to succeed
FA Cup Third Round
League Cup quarters
In General
Champions Manchester United
Top Scorer Suarez, bizzarely
Relegated Swansea, Newcastle and one of Villa, QPR, Wolves or Wigan

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

On Pratley, I agree - I named in in hope, although first signs are good.Lord Kangana wrote:BWFC

On Muamba, let's hope he's only disappointing in that he suddenly goes from being a teamsheet fixture to only being our fourth or fifth best central midfielder.

Re: Prediction Time
I think Pratleys best role will be as an attacking midfield player behind a front man ala Nolan!

Final Position If we don't sign a striker and someone good to cover Chungy...17th. If we do, still cant see it being any better than 11th.
Standout Player Wheater.
Most Disappointing Player Jussi. Player we were most disappointed to lose - Al Habsi as he keeps wiggin up on his own again. Robbo is a good shout for this though, he was good last year, and can't see him maintaining that standard, particularly with a full season behind Petrov.
FA Cup 3rd round loss to a championship side.
League Cup quarters lose to Chelsea.
In General
Champions DMBs
Top Scorer Hernandez
Relegated Swansea, Norwich, Bastard Rovers (we're going to get this after last years shit on the head by the football gods).
Others
We'll bottom of the league in September
We'll have a shit hot November
We'll be shit in January
We'll sign a player on either transfer deadline day
We'll actually score against Chelsea this year
We'll have the piss taken out of us twice by Stoke fans.............but have the last laugh with two wins, our only league double
Coyle will change from a 442 at some point this season, without having his hand forced by injuries

Re: Prediction Time
On 4-4-2, I honestly think he'll try something else away from home. Though strangely enough, pending potential front line recruitment, we've got a squad far more suited to 4-42 this year than last.

Re: Prediction Time
Let's hope the experiments away from 4-4-2 are indicative of an expanding mindset, and not just desperation being the father of invention.

Re: Prediction Time
I suppose the problem we face is that it would be great to win more away, but not at the expense of our very good home record. How you balance that I don't know.

Re: Prediction Time
We're definitely owed a good season from the Football Gods. The karma we've built up from last season's semi and the long term losses of Chungy, Ricketts and Holden must be equal to or more than a shiny trophy, at least?

Fear not, we'll make our own luck and just keep battling. It's a Bolton thing.

Re: Prediction Time
I predict we'll be at Wembley next season, in one cup or other. It'll be the third time I've been to the blasted place, and I'm reliably informed that the third time is, indeed, lucky.

Re: Prediction Time
It can be done. Possible to play different formations horses-for-courses – eg a 4-2-3-1 away with a third attacking midfielder, 4-4-2 at home. It may even be possible to do this with the same starting personnel, and if we don't get another striker soon it might be essential...Lord Kangana wrote:I suppose the problem we face is that it would be great to win more away, but not at the expense of our very good home record. How you balance that I don't know.
Besides, Coyle frequently ratchets up the attacking half of the formation via substitutions; so last season he'd sub Muamba with Mark Davies, or Taylor with Rodrigo. Lookit the Blackpool game where we ended up with personnel more suited to a 4-1-5: the back four plus Mark Davies, Petrov (on for Taylor, 60), Rodrigo (on for Lee, 60), Elmander, Klasnic (on for Muamba, 70) and Kevin Davies.
So we may start 4-2-3-1 away and, if we're chasing the game, switch a midfielder for a forward. Could also work at home against the bigger teams, but that's a different ethical barrier to cross, even if Coyle's 4-2-3-1 is a world away from other lone-forwards mindsets we've seen.
