We'll live without another full-back. Ricketts isn't a million miles away, and Reo-Coker filled in there for Villa on occaison.
The Jerome story just won't go away. I think he'd turn out to be a good signing at the right price (£3mil-ish).
What did he say this morning about SWP?

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
He just said SWP was a good player but stopped before saying anything a tad more formal about his interest.
However moments before he had categorically denied being in for Barton (although he admired him) and Weiss (had nothing positive to say about the lad). Also denied the Cahill story in its entirety, said something about being to dinner with Dalglish and Moyes a week before and nothing had been said about the lad, didn't rule out talking about N'Gog though...
Is there any chance we could afford the three, N'Gog, Jerome and SWP without the Cahill cash??

It'll be the wages that would prohibit that. SWP and N'Gog will not be on peanuts at their respective clubs, and whilst they may take a pay cut, theres a large gulf between our top end and the big clubs middle earners.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Yep wages the issue with SWP, and the transfer fee. Overall package very high for an older player. Not sure Coyle keen to offer the 4m City want and pay his massive wages!

I doubt City are going to want a great deal. I suspect it may even be a loan. Simply to get shut. But his lowering may be a great distance from ours.

What's the best guess on his current wages?

As usual, I have no idea what a player actually earns. But the figure has been repeated often enough for it to gain some residual validity.
I suspect, given Lee is our first choice on the right, our wage structure couldn't stomach a 40 grander out there. And still take on the two strikers we need.

Certainly what Nixon was saying I believe, earlier in the summer. Mind we paid Sturridges full amount on loan, which according to the same source was in the region of 60K. Different on a short term deal like.....Lord Kangana wrote:£80k I keep hearing.

£40k x 52 weeks = about £2MWandering Willy wrote:Feck me - he'll have to cut them by over 50% to come here.
There was something with BSA recently where he was saying that if he got a big name on a free, like we used to do, the money he saved on transfer fees could go into wages. Doubling £40k to £80k is only an extra £2M so if we're saving £2M on the transfer fee it could work... Probably not OC's M.O. though.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Plus signing on fee. These days at any rate, players have cottoned on.

Our interest in SWP goes all the way back to January at the earliest. There must be something that has convinced Coyle that we could make it work.

Aye - for a 2 year deal to work we would need him on a free and then some. There are others out there who would pay it probably, Sunderland maybe?

Seeing DJ Campbell go to QPR for £1.5m I'd be outraged if we paid more for than that for, imo a poorer player, in Jerome.Tombwfc wrote:We'll live without another full-back. Ricketts isn't a million miles away, and Reo-Coker filled in there for Villa on occaison.

Just re-watched the Coyle interview on SSN.
Weiss - not happening
Cahill - not going to Liverpool
Sturridge - wants him back at Bolton
SWP - looking for a deal
