Re: Tuncay, and his position in the team
Well quite, but given they managed about 3 starts between them last season (and they were all Cohen), then I suspect Tuncay hasn't been bought in to fill that particular gap.Lord Kangana wrote:I think theres just about enough intelligent folk in our support that realise it could have been JOB and Cohen. And rejoice.Worthy4England wrote:I'll wait and see, I think.
Dunno why, I just haven't got all excited about this signing yet. It's probably as much to do with who he partners with as much as Tuncay himself.
Oh and I don't want to be in the stadium on the day that OC makes a double substitution taking off Petrov and Tuncay and replacing them with Mavies and Gardner (or whoever else on the left). That would be strop city of the highest order.
Or Gavin McCann. And break out into rapturous applause that our options are still attacking.
I'm not unhappy with Tuncay as a signing.

Yes - the point I was making originally, was that when you look across our strikeforce at the minute, and indeed for the last few years, pace isn't an attribute you typically attach to it. So when everyone is referring to Ngog as a pacy striker, it's probably as much a comparison against what we currently have rather than a reference to the fact he's black.thebish wrote:I know - but i could find precious little about speed-comparisons between players other than a "top 10 shot hot fastest players of all time" thing that did the rounds...Worthy4England wrote:Hardly conclusive. His positioning might be so much better than everyone else, that he never needs that sprint burst to make up lost ground.thebish wrote:according to this article...Worthy4England wrote:You've been spending too much time in the social conscience thread.Prufrock wrote:My favourite bit of all this transfer talk is the Pro Evo style assumption that N'Gog, like Riga, is quick, because, erm, well, he's black.
Sammy Davies Jr would be referred to as lightning compared to Davo. Not because he's black.

as of April 2011 - Muamba was the slowest player at Bolton (not counting anyone with a broken leg)
pace is quite hard to judge watching from the stands - because it's a bit of a subjective judgement based at least in part on how fast the people around you are!
matty taylor would look shit-hot in a flat-out race for the ball with Ivan Campo f'rinstance...
all i have seen of N'gog is a few bits on the telly of highlights - I find it very hard to be quite as dogmatic as Pru as to how fast he actually is...

Indeed.
I think I myself have referred to "speed" (rather than pace). So speed of thought and reaction as much as speed of foot.

Re: Tuncay, and his position in the team
indeed... not sure Pru is on the money there... since we are perfectly used to the not-very-fast Muamba - then I doubt that many Bolton fans automatically make the black=fast assumption... (Meite and Faye were hardly sprint-tastic lunchbox-displaying track athletes either... if memory serves.. though I suspect the entire squad could run faster than every single one of us...Worthy4England wrote: Yes - the point I was making originally, was that when you look across our strikeforce at the minute, and indeed for the last few years, pace isn't an attribute you typically attach to it. Isn't Muamba quick? He always seems to be when he gets going to me.

acording to the article I posted - he is about 5MPH slower than Gary Cahill - and the slowest in the team...Lord Kangana wrote:Isn't Muamba quick? He always seems to be when he gets going to me.

Cahill is quicker off the mark. But Muamba seems to eat ground once he's into his stride.
But then, what the f*ck do I know.

who knows... as Worthy pointed out - the stats are compiled form video footage of games - so not sure how useful it is... it wasn't done with a stopwatch on a running track..
can't find anything else objective though - about players' speeds (or even extra yards in the head!)
looking at the figures, f'rinstance - there are a suspiciously high number of players whose exact top-sprint speed is 22.37 MPH... going to 2 decimal places - you wouldn't expect so many to be exactly the same, would you?

Was that the article that came out when Muamba had an injury? He's never seemed that slow to me.thebish wrote:acording to the article I posted - he is about 5MPH slower than Gary Cahill - and the slowest in the team...Lord Kangana wrote:Isn't Muamba quick? Re: Tuncay, and his position in the team
I wouldn't worry, that article is a pile of crap. Blackburn's fastest player - Brett Emerton and slowest Jason Roberts. Wilshere is Arsenals fastest player? Come on.
It is all made up by some apprentice numpty in the Mail on Sunday's office.

nahhh - they haven't the imagination NOT to put Walcott as the fastest arsenal player...malcd1 wrote:I wouldn't worry, that article is a pile of crap. Blackburn's fastest player - Brett Emerton and slowest Jason Roberts. Wilshere is Arsenals fastest player? Come on.

Re: Tuncay, and his position in the team
The article may have some truth, i know Emerton is the fastest in the oz team even beating Cahill ... No idea who Boltons fastest is tho, Chung Y Lee when fit ? Maybe Pratley now ? Is Tuncay fast or more a hold up the ball and pass player ?

Chungy is no sluggard but most of his wing play strikes me as being more about taking players on and laying off than streaming into the channels.

I'm sure if they all lined up and sprinted 100 metres at the same time, Muamba would be near the top of the standings. Petrov too.

Tunny's position? Wherever he wants to "fookin' play!
4--2-3-1 he could play any of the front 4. In a 4-4-1-1 best in the hole. 4-5-1 put him up top and he will press the defenders and give them no pause. 4-3-3 tou can play him anywhere in the front six. this guy is a game changer and will give the oppo gaffer selection headaches.
OC has had a superb transfer window so far and not put a foot wrong. He is making every pound count and that is to be commended.

Did they time them running with a football? Imagine it has a bit of bearing on things.
