From A Big Tuncay Fan

Post by tuncayfan » Sat Aug 13, 2011 11:44 am

Hi there everybody, i'm writing from Turkiye :) Been a big fan of Tuncay and Fenerbahce since my childhood. I think this is gonna be a long article, hope you won't get bored :)

Since yesterday(since Tuncay's transfer done) i've been reading this forum and finally decided to register and write this thing. I notice that in generally you Bolton fans are excited about him. Well i have to say me too for the first time since 2008(his Boro career started).

Just wanted to talk about his skills and game character. Cause i can see some fans are doubt on his skills or character, what position he's gonna play in.

To answer this questions, let's make a quick career highlight tour.

I can remember when i was 13, ManU defeated us(Fenerbahce) with 6-2 in their home. We crashed that night but one kid, who was 23, was the only man who standing tall against Red Devils. He scored one goal, and made his famous goal celebration(putting his finger on his mouth which means shut up! :))) When the score was 6-2, Tuncay was still running and fighting like he has 5 lunge. We lost that night but he was the winner, that's for sure.

Then we won against them with 3-0 in Istanbul. He scored three goals(header, overhead and right foot) and started to make a name in Europe. Arsenal rumours were in the air. But never happened.

Goals:

The next year, season of 2005-2006, we lost the title on the last match. It was a disaster. And guess who was crying and punching the pitch? Tuncay was. In my opinion, he was his finest performance at that season. Here is one of his finest goals from that season, against Galatasaray:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJcpsc2pGw4 (first goal - long range)

And the season of 2006-2007, his last season at Fenerbahce. We made an UEFA Cup apparence(which was unlucky) and Tuncay was our finest player at the campaign. Here is some of his goals( on 06/07(you can see from the goal celebrations his made, he's really not playing like a player, he plays like a fan).

He capped 80 times and scored 22. He was tha captain of Fenerbahce and Turkiye national football team. But he's not with national football team about 6 months cause of his poor form.

Well, let's talk about his ability and skills.

-He's a decent finisher,

-Surprsinigly effective on headers, scored a lot of goals with header,

-His stamina is incredible,

-Works hard on trainings,

-Like i said before, HE PLAYS LIKE A FAN, NOT A PLAYER

-He's very aggresive, but not dirty. Never seen he's banned with red.

-He's a good runner.

-He loves the show some dribble skills and moves:

-Takes responsibility

POSITION

He can play as a left winger, right winger or striker. The position of Tuncay always been discussed when he played for Fenerbahce. He played generally in left winger but when he played on striker position he made some differences(hattrick to ManU). Uses his both foot effectively.

Let's hope Owen Coyle think his as a first team player. Believe me mates, if he get chance, he won't emberass you. By the way, as i see, he means lot to Stoke and Boro fans, still. It's very good too see, and just another proof of how cool is this boy(as a person, as a player).

I tried to explain his talents and character to who has some confusion and doubts about him. Hope this helped. As a Fenerbahce fan, i miss

By the way, i'm a Bolton fan from now. Hope the season will be great for us.

Take care, see you soon my friends.

Thanks for the input tuncayfan! I would like to ask, what happened to Tuncay's form? Do you think he has lost some of his ability, or does he simply need more time on the pitch. Not many of us know what happened while at Wolfsburg, but he only played 4 games.

You're welcome. Well, definitely the second answer. Which means, he need more time on the pitch. I think he nearly lost the believe in himself when he plays for Stoke. It's a long story. It was a last second transfer, lot of teams interested with Tuncay at that time like Villareal, Schalke, Werder Bremen and even Liverpool. But Stoke had the money that Boro asked. Stoke's tactical system wasn't suitable for Tuncay, plus Tony Pullis didn't see him as a first team player as well(despite the fact Stoke fans wanted Tuncay in the first team)

And the Wolfsburg era.. Manager Steve Mclaren was the one who wanted Tuncay in his team, but dramaticly he's fired and the new manager didn't want Tuncay too. But this is not the only reason, Wolfsburg had a terrible season last year so we can blame every thing in Wolfsburg. Of course Tuncay wasn't enjoying with his top form too..

So we can say every thing that happaned between Tuncay and his teams were mutual. Tuncay struggled, teams struggled. But i'm pretty sure if he get chance this season there'll be no problem on Tuncay's side.

@Turkish Trotter: Wow it's nice to see that i'm not the only Turkish Trotter :) Merhaba and thank you.

I saw a Fenerbahce game in around 2002 or 2003, not sure if he was playing. I was sat in the away end with a hundred or so fans of a tiny team in the middle of Turkey somewhere. Fenerbahce went 0-2 down in the first 15 minutes but went on to win 4-2. Even if he wasn't playing then I'm going to make believe he was.

Was it in Istanbul? I remember a Konyaspor match resulted 4-2 in 2003 and Tuncay scored twice as i remember.

Hello lads.

I'm another Turk to give you information on Tuncay and the way he could contribute to the Wanderers. I am a Fenerbahçe fan and have been following him since 2001 when he scored against Besiktas for Sakaryaspor.

To start with, I'm a very good PL follower and am very happy that Tuncay has signed for you guys. After Megson left, I've really enjoyed watching Bolton. When Megson was in charge, it was a horrible experience enduring Bolton games. I can't say I'll support Wanderers like my other Turkish friend with information says as I'm a Hammers fan (yes, Championship sucks).

Tuncay signed for Fener in 2002 and the first year he came in, we were hopeless and he was the only player to actually try to make things better. In 2003, he took part in the Confederations Cup and scored against USA and France (Henry, Wiltord and many others also played in this fixture).

We loved him because we knew he would do everything in his power to turn games around. We won 3 titles with him playing mostly on the left wing or as a second striker. He scored 19 in the league in 2003-04 when he played as a striker. He also played with the likes of Anelka, Van hooijdonk and Appiah.

He was always shown as the biggest Turkish talent so he wanted to prove himself in Europe. His transfer to Boro was a bit of a disappointment. (Milan was rumoured to be interested) He had a good playing period for Boro and the supporters loved him (The PL broadcaster in Turkey would only show the Boro games because he was playing and we missed many crucial title deciding games because of this.)
He played mostly as a winger and he didn't have a good partner up front (Aliadiere and Alves were miserable). Downing, Wheater, Adam Johnson and Tuncay were the only decent players.

Now, we come to the breaking point. Boro got relegated and Tuncay chose to go to....STOKE??? Because Tuncay isn't 1.90cm and 80 kilos, he couldn't break into the first team. Pulis was just toying around with him, once bringing him on as a sub 83rd minute and subbing him on 88th.

He spent a whole year not playing and the next year he wanted to leave. Signed for Wolfsburg thinking McClaren would give him more chance in the first 11 but the same week he signed, McClaren was sacked. So he spent the rest of the season not doing much.

He was on a Tv show similar to Soccer Am Team Mates in Turkey and when he was asked about the Worst Manager he had, he said without doubt "PULIS". So his recent form can be attributed to Stoke's negative, physical football. Even when he was given chances in Stoke, he did well (Watch his performance against Manure and Citeh).

I always believed Tuncay was suited to teams like Everton, Villa, Bolton and Sunderland. Believe me, he's a good signing. He'll probably score 10-13 goals and contribute to Bolton team spirit. I'd say he would best link up with Kevin Davies and Klasnic.

Should any questions emerge, I can answer them.
