Who he?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

19 year old right back, been with the club since he was 7

Hopefully he plays with confidence.

He did well against Levante, kept it simple. But when he's in full flow for the reserves, on the overlap, he can be a joy to watch.

JOE RILEY had waited 12 long years to step out at the Reebok as a first team player, and now he’s got the keepsake to prove it.

The Academy graduate, who has been with Wanderers since the age of seven, got his big moment replacing Gretar Steinsson 15 minutes before the end of last Friday’s friendly against Levante.

Twitter, from the official site's feed. @OfficialBWFC
Nothing else as of yet but people in attendance (that lass from Tower FM, for example) might have tweeted more nuggets of info.

OWEN Coyle will give Wanderers’ next generation the chance to shine against Macclesfield Town in the Carling Cup.

Adam Blakeman, Joe Riley and Mark Connolly are all expected to play some part in tomorrow night’s Reebok clash.

Coyle will ring the changes against the League Two club for the second-round clash ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool in the Premier League.

Adam Bogdan, David Wheater, Darren Pratley, Mark Davies, Marcos Alonso and Robbie Blake are also likely to start.

And the manager will hope to finally have new signing Tuncay available after the Turkish striker has been stuck in Germany waiting for a work permit.

But it is the inclusion of youngsters Blakeman, Riley and Connolly that will offer Wanderers fans a glimpse of the future.

Blakeman was named among the substitutes for the first time in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat against Manchester City.

The versatile 19-year-old, who can play left back or centre midfield, impressed last season with the reserves and scored in John Henry’s side’s 2-1 opening defeat at Swansea last week.

Riley, an attacking right back, came on against Levante in the pre-season friendly while Connolly, also 19, who can play centre back or midfield, was included on Wanderers’ US tour in the summer.

“I’ll make changes,” said Coyle. “Adam Blakeman was on the bench and you might see one or two of the young reserves, like Joe Riley and Mark Connolly, popping up in the game.”

He added: “It’s been tough on the lads who came on against Manchester City [Darren Pratley and Mark Davies] because they probably deserved a starting slot but, ultimately, I can only start 11.”

Coyle is desperate to have Tuncay available after the 29-year-old, who has joined on a season-long loan from VfL Wolfsburg, has been frustrated by paperwork.

The Bolton boss only discovered at 5pm on Friday that he would be without the forward for Sunday’s clash at City.

But the issue should be resolved in time for Tuncay to make his debut against Macclesfield.

Coyle added: “Hopefully that will be resolved at the start of the week.”

Jlloyd Samuel, meanwhile, is back at Wanderers.

The full back, who was released by Coyle at the end of last season, is training with his old club as he searches for a new employer

Thanks. Odd though. Why does Coyle use the future tense for the "start of the week"? Also no language there confirming Riley will start. Oh well, we'll see..

Presume that the interviews with the lovely Kelly et al are done away from those done with the print lot like Iles....so there may be some overlap or difference.

Yeah, sounds like an old snippet tacked on to add weight to what would otherwise be the journalists educated guess.

Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

"Young Joe Riley, who has been excelling in the reserves, will make his full debut and a few of the young players who we have got high hopes for will be part of 18."

Well that's sorted.

Presence of Tuncay should persuade a few waverers. As, in truth, should The Next Generation.

And the chance to see Pratley in a full proper game.

That too, although for all his pre-season promise I'm not sure that'd drag tens of thousands to Horwich. But for all my usual talk of not changing teams too much for cup games, I'm quite excited to hear about the kids, plus the new players, the continuing development of Alonso, the chance for Wheater to stake a claim, and of course the return of Ricardo 'Bibi – no, Legend - no, Bibi' Gardner :D
