He did indeed.
I don't mind him, he seems to be about 80% right with links and things. If the players then don't come to Bolton I wouldn't say it's his fault. I'd blame Garty/Or the player

As I always say you hear things from him far earlier than you would in a lot of cases, because of his friendship with Coyle. So there are far greater chances for deals to break down and things to change then when you normally hear about things when deals are closesr.TKIZ! wrote:He did indeed.

He writes what Coyle wants him to write. I'll bet all managers conduct their business this way. If Owen wants N'Gog to know we are interested in him, we cannot approach him direct and you cannot trust Liverpool to do it for us. A quick word with a journalist like Nixon, someone who will print what Owen wants printing and he gets his message across.BWFC_Insane wrote:As I always say you hear things from him far earlier than you would in a lot of cases, because of his friendship with Coyle. I personally don't see the problem with this relationship or with Nixon. Yes he probably over inflates his own importance but he is a journalist after all.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
To be fair, the above assumes that David N'Gog reads the Daily Mirror, and is aware that Nixon is Coyle's proxy. If he's aware of it, and we're aware of it, everyone is aware of it and what's the point?
I'm not entirely sure how Nixon gets his stories (though he's obviously got some form of relationship with Coyle and Gartside), or why, but he does seem to get them. This thread, and this transfer window, would've been duller without it.

What I was saying is that if he says something and it is a load of shite, has anybody lost out on anything? It's a transfer rumour, not life and death. He's not taking your money, or even teasing you into buying the paper. From what I've seen, nearly all of his stories have had some truth to them. How can the stories be 'accurate' if they then turn out to be 'a load of shite'? One minute he's saying that so and so is likely to sign for a team and then when it doesn't happen, it's because the player has had other offers. In other words, he doesn't seem to be any more 'ITK' than anyone on here.

Ultimately, nearly every actual signing we've made this summer hasn't had weeks of the Nixon treatment. Perhaps Pratley, but then he was the worst kept secret since Fabregas to Barcelona.
If he really does think he has a special relationship with people at our club, he should feel pretty miffed to be quite honest.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I don't think he has a relationship with "people" from our club, just the manager who he's known since OC was a young player breaking through.Lord Kangana wrote:Ultimately, nearly every actual signing we've made this summer hasn't had weeks of the Nixon treatment. As for the rest, hasn't he been writing about NGog and SWP for "weeks"? And as he does have that friendship with Coyle, its fairly blatant, that he's only going to write about the things Coyle is happy to see in print. So he's hardly going to write about something in the very delicate initial stages. Tuncay being an example, he knew about it, was giving clues on twitter, but wasn't allowed to put it in the paper until it developed more.
The key point being that the targets he names, he has usually named them first before anyone else!

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
I can imagine Nixon being one of those annoying mithering bastards who tells everyone down the pub that he's mates with a Premier League manager.. "Watch this, I'll prove it, I'll phone Owen"
Owen lets his phone ring out whilst tutting and sighing to his wife.. "Not again.. This tubby bastard won't leave me alone"
Cue the phone ringing about 11 more times until Owen gives in and gives him a snippet.. "I might be after a striker"

And then taps his nose. Even though he's on the phone.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
From article in the Bolton News
'Coyle remained coy on potential signings before the transfer window closes next Wednesday.
Deals for Shaun Wright-Phillips and David N’Gog remain close to completion, while Rangers winger Greg Wylde is also another target.
But suggestions have now emerged that the Wanderers boss could try a loan move for Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata. The centre-half’s father had claimed earlier in the summer that his son would not be interested in a switch to the Reebok, but Coyle insists he would have no trouble selling the club to any prospective signing.
“Whether it’s two, three or four, I only deal in fact,” he said of potential deals. “But I am not any further on than I was from Sunday.
“On the football side of things I will always be confident that whoever I am speaking to I can convince them what we are trying to do here and how we go about it.
“I don’t think I will fall short on that side. We have got to make sure the finance side of it falls into place as well.”

Ultimately he does because he loses credibility. He probably knows who we're trying to get and that's about it, the rest is all conjecture on his part.Tombwfc wrote:What I was saying is that if he says something and it is a load of shite, has anybody lost out on anything?
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Exactly, we don't lose anything because it gets the fans behind OC IMHO. It shows even if it's a rumour that OC is trying to bring in a certain type of player. I think it's great to see and can only be good for the clubBL3 wrote:Ultimately he does because he loses credibility. I propose a motion to rename the thread 'Alan Nixon's Impossibly Brilliant All New...etc etc etc'

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Chuff off, TKIZ's Impossibly Brilliant All New etc has a better ring to it!

I suppose previous pretenders to the throne have come and gone away with their tails between their legs !
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
They're not just 'rumours' though are they? He tweeted the other day that the Boyata deal was pretty much a formality when according to the BN article you've just quoted, OC said I am not any further on than I was from Sunday That seems to suggest that Nixon jumped the gun.TKIZ! wrote:Exactly, we don't lose anything because it gets the fans behind OC IMHO. It's not 'good for the club' if he reveals that we're on the verge of signing someone, only for them to join someone else. Supporters might perceive this as the club snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, when in reality we might not have been that close to signing them anyway.

I don't recall him saying the Boyata deal was pretty much a formality? He may say things that people (me included) draw conclusions from, but thats hardly his fault.

Yeah the Boyata thing was said as being nearly complete, but possible could be down to other managers reading that and contacting the player. Something which Nixon/OC/Garty can't stop, just saying
