Is child labour an issue for you? A lot of chocolate companies take no responsibility for child labour. Thankfully, companies like Nike and Adidas seem to be fairly responsible. Don't know about Reebok though
Only because they were rumbled! Was it their African or indian "factory" that got stumbled across? cannot remember,

Weren't most footballs made in India at one time using almost slave labour?

As DSB points out I think most of us will be a bit hypocritical condemning a deal like this over ethical grounds.
End of the day football fans in general are happy to go and watch new players, without ever questioning too much where the money has come from to pay for them. How it was earned, who earned it etc etc....
I imagine for fans of most premiership clubs, they probably shouldn't dig too far as they probably won't like the answers. I wonder how many truly ethical large companies there are out there prepared to invest in football clubs? My guess is not enough to go round.

Don't know about that, Tango, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me.TANGODANCER wrote:Weren't most footballs made in India at one time using almost slave labour?
A friend of mine is a buyer for a company that supplies a large sports retailer that has a feint whiff of pies about it. Large parts of her time are spent out in Blangladesh. As part of her remit, whilst she's out there discussing designs and whatnot she carries out 'ethical factory surveys', but as she says, she ultimately hasn't a clue what's going on as soon as she's not there.

It seems Hitler and the Nazi trade union had a hand in Volkswagen's formation.

Porsche made tanks if you're thinking of getting one.
And BMW aero engines.
You have been warned.

Just pointing out as others have, the majority of companies aren't whiter than white, wether currently or historically.Prufrock wrote:Annoyed Grunt wrote:It seems Hitler and the Nazi trade union had a hand in Volkswagen's formation.

But cheers for the lesson though.

I can see the value of the current horrorshow argument. And if I had a team of folk dedicated to PR I'd be livid if I was linked to one. The whole VW, Siemens Fanta thang is balls.

It seems to me that large multinational organizations have many different divisions that are entirely unconnected with one another. We are being sponsored by the solar energy chaps, not the evil mine manufacturers. Solar energy is good, green, sustainable, etc. What I can't understand is how solar energy would work in Bolton, where days (months?) go by with no sun and the long winter nights at your latitude. Still, I was enlightened when I raised similar amounts of incomprehension about air conditioning, so I'm willing to be enlightened over this.

Why is it balls? Because it's historical? Have any of those companies paid reparations to anyone? Doubt it.Prufrock wrote:I can see the value of the current horrorshow argument. so the fact that it is a different part of a conglomerate is not relevant? or the fact they haven’t made them since 2000? or the fact they were made solely to defend the border with North Korea, the most mental rogue state in the world? Or that the law on Korea compensates anyone injured, though why you’d be in the DMZ I don’t know. Perhaps people should refuse to accept the Nobel prize because Alfred Nobel invented dynamite and that’s been weaponised too? And what about the people that die each year from alcohol related diseases, should we decline the money from the League Cup sponsors? I hope when your knee jerked you didn’t kick yourself in the face.
