The Daily Mirror say we've made a £6m bid for Gary Cahill. Which might be true given he's in his final season of his contract with Owen Coyle's side. Bolton's asking price is £17m which seems very high for a player who could walk away for free next summer. I expect we'll go back with an improved bid. But when you consider we spent £10m on Koscielny last summer, you have to ask whether £17m is a fair value. I don't believe it is.

This bit was written in response by my missus

.....I have supported Arsenal since I was about 8 and am now in my mid 30's. I agree we need some more players as our squad at the moment is very small indeed and like everyone else wish that we had got some new players in by now. But I feel I have to disagree with the above part you have written in this piece about Gary Cahill. I think he is a good player with real potential to become a truly great player, to be fair he is nearly there. My other half is a Bolton fan and we regularly go to the Reebok and see Cahill play week in week out. And this is what we need, players that can walk straight into our team and know what the premier league is all about. He is 25, so has many years ahead of him and under Arsene who knows how good he could become (to be fair under Coyle the same would apply). I think him and Vermaelen would form a formidable partnership. Not sure how you can argue about Bolton asking for £17m for a player in his last year of contract, have we not just sold a player for £25m in his last year of a contract? I am not comparing the players at all, but the situation. WE have sold one of our best players for the best price we could, so why should Bolton not be allowed to do the same? As for Koscielny...Cahill is better, so would he not be worth more than £10m or at least the same offer and than work for there.
She talks sense, your missus. Its a wonder she married a Bolton fan... You must be very charming... :-P
Charming men don't read the mirror nor clever ones marry Arsenal fans!

Then this circus being played out on Sky sports and doubtless tomorrows tabloids would have been avoided.

Unfortunately the way modern tranfers work seem to be more akin to a game of poker played out in the media rather than the boardroom. Where the word spoken in the press have no basis on the reality of the situation ( Thinking the Tevez / Fabregas / Nasri situationover the summer ) but simply a glib soundbite for a few days. Would be nice to believe the clubs and players had consideration of how the fans feel but sadly I fear they are the last in anyones mind.

I only hope Arsenal don't edge the offer up towards the release clause with a few hours of the transfer window left, which gives us no time to get an adequate repleacement. I actually hope Coyle leaves Cahill out of the team tomorrows game as I suspect his head will not be totally focused on the game.
Gary Cahill could be on the phone to Wenger, actively negotiating his transfer during the game, and he'd still be roughly ten times the player of Wheater and Knight combined. He'll play.

Wenger called out your chairman saying he's lying about the bid and also made it clear he doesnt understand why anyone is being insulted. if i wanna buy your house I come to you and make an offer. if you dont like the offer you say no and thats it. This whole idea of putting pressure on Arsenal to bid much more by using the media is laughable. wenger is not easily influenced and will stick to his guns. Just think your chairman is being very unprofessional here and is making you look bad
I don't get this house quote at all. If your house was up for sale at £170,000 and someone offered you only £60,000 because they (inaccurately) perceive you as too desperate to turn them down, would you not feel insulted? I'd certainly tell them where they could stick their bid.

We've been open and said we've had a derisory bid. If arsenal know how much he's worth to us as I presume they do judging by the fact everyone knows our valuation of him then make this bid, it's insulting and he's doing it because were "only" BWFC and he reckons he can therefore take advantage of us. Our chairman is only being honest and he's correct #wengerisabell

On the bright side, at least we now know for sure that wenger is seriously interested in him. I hope gartside being a knob and Arsenals pathetic first offer and the subsequent fall out won't break up any future negotiations. Time is running out...

He didn't offer £6mil, from what I gather it was around £8mil plus add ons and given the ridiculous valuation of £17mil, leaves way to meet in the middle at the more reasonable price of £12/13 mil.

There is only one 'nob' in this and it ain't Gartside! Arsehole Wanker has had all summer to sort out the crisis at Arsenal and buy the 6 top players you need to have a chance of 4th place still. But he has let the Emirates burn while he has fiddled away fooling around with Fabregas and Nasti! The come in with a load of silly bids 3 days before window shuts! Arsenal are a club in crisis! Nobody in football likes Wenger that's a well known fact. Nobody will help him out. You will likely be bottom after tomorrow. Good.

I'm not denying that Wenger has not had a very good summer - though, to a degree, i don't think he had much choice in the sales he's made, nasri and fabs clearly both wanted away. I know everyone that isn't a gooner hates wenger and I don't particularly care that they do. Seems half the arsenal fans have had enough too (though I don't include myself in that half just yet) but I don't think Bolton and Gartside have handled this particularly well or professionally either...

Arsene wankstain's bidding tactics stink of well I tried to buy players but what can I do if clubs won't sell..

He is desperate to show the squad he has is good enough to compete already.

He has said he wants to sign 3 more players but if he doesn't you can guarantee he will trot out all the crap about players coming back from injury being like 'new signings' and the team having 'a lot of potential'...

Sorry if this seems aggressive but do you really know that it was £8m offered? I don't think anyone bar Gartside and your representative know exactly how much was offered.

Neither club has covered themselves in glory with this episode.

We don't want to lose Cahill, like you with Nasri we just want a fair price for a quality player.
Pfffft.

I don't KNOW, that's why I said 'i gather'. Wenger has stated it was more then the £6mil quoted and I read somewhere that it was around that amount (£8mil) I cant remember where I read that and I can't be bothered to get out of bed and use the pc rather then my phone to google it.

That's what i was trying to say neither clubs come out of this great, inwasnt just having a go at Bolton.

Don't think that's the point. You knew they were leaving, I knew they were leaving, the entire f**king world knew they were leaving, but Wenger refused to deal with reality. There are no excuses for Arsenal if they do poorly this year. Sure losing those two players were a big loss but you had time and money to resolve the matter and Wenger not only failed in all likelyhood but seemed not to even try until what might end up being too late. Now are are in the final days of the transfer window and he is still farting around playing stupid games and committing all the sins that he constantly whines about from other people.

Wenger stated it was more? Hmmm, to be honest I wouldn't believe anything he says.

The original article said 6m + add-ons. Maybe Wenger is just including the add-ons.

Hence me also saying that neither club has covered themselves in glory. The offer was low, we should have just rebuked it. End of story

Am not arguing that, but everyone always starts with a low offer when trying to buy a player, same as teams over value their players when trying to sell. Noone seriously expects they will get Cahill for 6 or 8 mil same as you lot can't seriously believe you will get £16/17 mil for him. What is odd is that Bolton are choosing to make the transfer discussions public.
