Not to take anything away from how dire we were today (the apparent lack of desire being especially riling), but to me these last two games highlight the need for a separate league for the big spenders. The gulf in class gets more exaggerated with every season. We played very well last week and were still beaten comfortably. It's a joke.

We move onto the next game now against ManUre.

But a more fluid 4-2-3-1 formation away from home has to be tried
The most frustrating thing for us though, is that that kind of formation is perfectly suited to our personnel. But for whatever reason, Coyle can/will only work with a 4-4-2.

Maybe it's because he knows Davo can't play up there on his own and he'd rather drink a glass of AIDS than drop him

4-4-2 with a central grouping of Muamba, Reo-Coker, Kev & Klasnic is never going to work. No pace in any of em and only 3 of the 4 that work hard (usually).

When I was scrabbling around for positives after Wembley I thought it would be that we would never surrender so meekly under Coyle ever again. What the feck do I know :whack:

Klasnić and Davies let you down today. They couldn't hold up the ball long enough for your midfielders to support them. Eagles and Knight were absolutely shocking. Wheater must start ahead of Knight. I thought Petrov and M.Davies did alright, they at least tried to take the game to Liverpool. 4-5-1 is definitely your best option away from home, but you'll probably need a more dynamic striker for that to work. Any chance of getting Sturridge on loan again?

The thing that happens after day?

Our MF and defense was roundly taken the piss out of. Again.

To put that problem down to Knight is laughable..

That McMananmananmanan incident was years ago, you've got to move on.

He's as good an out and out left winger as we'll afford

Imo, we shouldn't be playing out and out left wingers but thats a whole new can of worms

And his tackle count is how many?

Balance is the key - and against better opposition he has none. That said, he's looking as good this first three games as he did the first 5/6 games last season.

I don't want to go down having lost every game 3-2.

Agreed, which is again why I think a change of formation away from home would play to our strengths. With 5 in midfield Petrov's defensive frailties would be less exposed.

Fair point, we were fairly clearly second best from minute 2 today.

Jesus, get the razor blades out.

All that today has taught us is that there is a gulf between teams at the top & the rest of us. It was the same team that played well against City.

We just need to make sure that we beat teams outside the top 6. If we play as badly against the likes of Wolves/Swansea/Blackburn etc, then we know we have a problem. But we won't.
... of course I may just be talking bo11ocks

But when was the last time we had a home record like last season? We were behind before, we're seriously behind on spending right now.

Spot on man, look at the cost of Liverpool's team, Henderson and Downing were how much? Best part of 40m between them, and our wingers cost less than 5m (including Chungy). How in the hell can we compete with teams that buy like that. End of the day we have a decent team, and that will be reflected in the table at the end of the season. We thrashed QPR and will have some good wins this season, and the top 6 or so teams should have a league of their own. No big deal today, Robinson, Stiensonn and Knight, same old shit...

This, a thousand times this.

Our defenders are average but given the pressure they get put under coz we're mobbed in midfield it's amazing we don't concede more.
