A Sense of perspective

I think yesterdays game says more about the potential of this Liverpool side than the frailties of the Bolton side, I accept that the performance was below what the team and supporters would of hoped for. That said we have a dreadful record at Anfield in recent times, and the fact Liverpool have only lost once at home 2011 since Kenny Daglish took over. Personally I would prefer us to put in a below par performance in a game like yesterdays than one we would expect to challenge hard for 3 points.

last weeks performance against Man City is put into context with todays game at White hart lane, were city have done to Tottenham what we never allowed them to do to us. This with our encouraging win against QPR suggests that we should be able to try and challenge for a top eight place come May.

Also encouraging is how some of new players have sezttled in Eagles, Reo Coker looking solid premiership players, and Tuncay looking like he will give us some much needed creativity up front. Holden to come back will be like a new player arriving in the squad, sadly it looks as if Cahill will go but the loan of Boyata and possibly another signing at centre back will give us enough for the season. If we can strengthen the squad with a quick striker and the midfield with a winger will give us a squad that should challenge for that top eight spot and give us a cup run.

This next few days will probably be the most important of the season for Coyle to see if we can strengthen where we need to and build on what I see as an encouraging start to the season so far let hope this optimism continues till May.

As much as I wish otherwise, I have to disagree with you there.

Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Liverpool are the strongest four teams in my opinion. So I'd say Liverpool are almost a cert for the top five.

Who do you see pushing them to 6th? Spurs and Arsenal?

In all honesty last weeks game against City should have ended up a similar scoreline to the Tottenham one today but saying that we still gifted them two goals.

Yesterdays game was a huge disappointment and the same form we finished last season. saying that I think we have a better squad than we had in May and once we get our players back to fitness I think we will do well. There is no way we can compete with the big spending clubs but we should do well against the others.

The top five are even further clear than the rest of the league than ever before.

So we all had a moan at a bad day. Done with. Nobody expected much from the first six games so we can't be that surprised. Three games, six goals against seven for. Bring it on. Let the top boys beat all our/their opponents and we lose little or nothing.

I'd agree here and didn't even think Chelsea looked that brilliant so far. Spurs might do okay but not on today's showing.

i hope it was a just a bad day- but then i hoped the semi was just an aberration also. really bad days of the spineless, tactically inept variety (as opposed to mind numbingly boring variety) have become a lot more common recently
we can't afford to just shrug our shoulders and say we expect nothing against the top 5/6/10.
that attitude which i hope OC doesn't share would place a huge pressure on taking everything off the rest of the games.
as for Liverpool- we've seen it all before. i cant see a midfield of one paced Adam, inexperienced Henderson, pretty average Lucas and Stevie Me cutting the mustard over the season

Chelsea so far have looked quite poor to be honest. They are wanting Torres to get his confidence back but to no avail as yet. Will be interesting to see if Sturridge gets some playing time next game week. He was pretty lethal in the pre season friendlies that I saw. I would also expect to see Liverpool in the top 6 at the end of the season.

Here is my perspective - if we go theough the season, with the players we have at our disposal already (and pissibly a couple more to come in) and continually set up like we did yesterday in tough matches away from home... i'll br pissed off cos we will have an extremely negative goal difference and its preventable.

If we had blackpools squad last year i would say its slightly different...but ee have the players to be a lot harder to beat away now.

if yesterday acts as some kind of epiphany for Coyle on this I'll be happy.
