Personally not bothered if he leaves us on a free. He's the kind of player that could be the difference between relegation/safety or Europe/obscurity. We've had our moneys worth and if he gives his all the season and leaves for free, thats fine, no hard feelings at all. Been professional all along too.

Well, I am absolutely made up with him staying! Having a celebratory pint here!

2258: IN THE PIPELINE
Something had to already be in place if Raul Meireles is going to join join Chelsea in the next 120 seconds. I suspect we won't find out until after the deadline has passed...
spurs must have sold that fax machine to chelsea

I'm amused by all the semi-literate African Arsenal fans abusing Gartside on Twitter

I've a feeling Coyle never planned to sell him at all, and simply led the other teams on a merry dance until the transfer window shut.

Seeing as this is probably the last time anyone will be visiting his twitter account (til january at least) I just thought i'd post this final gem, bang on the money;
mini0mk Liam McMenamin
@reluctantnicko Well I'm please with the window but it could have been better had Cahill gone! I have a feeling we won't make a penny
It feels good to be a wanderer tonight.reluctantnicko Alan Nixon
@mini0mk U have one of the best centre halves in Prem. He has a point to prove. U have a cracking set of captures. And best boss in game.

Sure, but it's more that he's talking to GC, he's not saying that he can't leave the club. He's giving GC hope that if the right offer comes in he can go.Jakerbeef wrote:I've a feeling Coyle never planned to sell him at all, and simply led the other teams on a merry dance until the transfer window shut.
I've heard a few people comparing this to Elmander. Completely different in my mind. £5M for a top quality CB for 4 years is a bargain. If he goes for nothing I'm sure BWFC will be happy with that, it sounds like we'd rather keep him for the season than sell him for a minimal profit.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Exactly!! If Gary does leave in 12 months time you can bet some idiots will be having a go at Owen and Phil and saying its 15/17 million pound down the dream when such figures did not exist, and weren't even offered in the first place.Armchair Wanderer wrote:Sure, but it's more that he's talking to GC, he's not saying that he can't leave the club. Onto the next debate, will Gary Cahill sign a new contract?
Personally, I think he will.

I don't.Rodney Trotter wrote:Onto the next debate, will Gary Cahill sign a new contract?

Hopefully they'll give him an improved contract with a lowered minimum release fee. Maybe 11/12m, so it doesn't look like he's 'trapped'.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I feel there has been a 'sea-change' in the thinking on Cahill. Earlier in the summer I believe the idea from Coyle et al was to sell and use the money.
Past few weeks though, I think we've actively dug our heels in to try and keep him.
Why that is I'm not sure, perhaps its because there was never a good enough offer. Or perhaps Coyle felt he'd got the players he needed in and no longer needed a sale to raise the cash.
Alternatively it could be that he believes Cahill will sign some sort of new deal, or that he thinks we'll get offers in January.
Interesting to see what plays out next. Iles tweeted that having heard what Spurs were offering, he feels Bolton must have a plan, hinting that he thinks they wouldn't have turned down the Spurs offer if they thought Cahill wouldn't sign a new deal here.

It certainly won't be 17 million down the drain though possibly 12 mill down the drain.wanderers_on_tour wrote: Exactly!! If he makes the difference between keeping you up and being relegated then it's very good business. If he makes the difference between getting you into the Europa and not then it's still pretty good business I guess.
Not quite so sure he'll come to us next season though. Will depend who is in top 4 and at which clubs he would get a starting place (which I guess is something he'd want)
Anyway I might be back here in jan
