Ah yes, I'd forgotten about Elmander being in midfield for a while. My mind must have blanked it out.Tombwfc wrote:The problem wasn't Holden being injured, it was who we had to replace him. A much more pertinent stat is the % of games when Holden was injured, where we were able to field both Muamba and Mark Davies in midfield, as opposed to relying on Cohen and Elmander.

I still blame West Ham. If they hadn't rolled over and had their bellies tickled the week before we might have had a different strategy.

Re: David N'Gog Signs
Sturridge is obviously an excellent player, but I do feel that when he was with us, he had a once in a lifetime purple patch that he'd struggle to match again (in terms of goals per games)Jakerbeef wrote:Sturridge probably did play above himself for the months he was with us. Perhaps a concerted effort to put himself in the shop window, or raise his stock at Chelsea.

Re: David N'Gog Signs
Sturridge I fully expected to be ace last season, with Ngog I just don't know. Was really treated like an afterthought at Liverpool, something I know Coyle won't do. Looking forward to see how this move pans out. Wow, Bolton with 4 strikers, and no I don't count Blake.
Re: David N'Gog Signs
And Eaves waiting in the recovery room in order to continue his development.
Re: David N'Gog Signs
the 3 year contract thing bugs me.
if he's good , he'll go for nowt. like elmander and/maybe cahill
in these bosman times if yr spending £4m+ on a player it should be a 4 yearer.
signing "works in progress" to make profit on doesnt work if youre not keeping them here long enough to do it.
if they can make them extend it after the first year , then good, but we never do that. doing that half way thru a four-er would be safer.
its like theyre still frightened of being relegated / going bump .

3 years is pretty much par for the course. If he's electric this year, we'll extend it.a1 wrote:the 3 year contract thing bugs me.

Besides, it may have been part of HIS side of the negotiations

People keep wanting this 1 up front system, but what is the point of Petrov being in a team if you're not going to get strikers into the box? He gets wide, and he crosses, needs a target or two in there!hisroyalgingerness wrote:Colours nailed to mast as follows

Re: David N'Gog Signs
Do you mean from midfield? I could see that working with Pratley playing a Tim Cahill esque role, he reminds me a bit of Nolan with his runs into the box.TANGODANCER wrote:"Arriving" in the box sometimes works when players are awake.BWFC_Insane wrote: People keep wanting this 1 up front system, but what is the point of Petrov being in a team if you're not going to get strikers into the box? Mark Davies on the other hand...no.
Re: David N'Gog Signs
N'Gog probably needs a partner I think, at least at first... So he's probably at the right club!

Do you mean Mark Davies doesn't arrive in the box? Check the blackpool goal.BWFC_Insane wrote:Do you mean from midfield? One occurrence in three years?
He's not that player

Re: David N'Gog Signs
Hey fellas...
ANOTHER Liverpool fan here (yes we're everywhere). Glad to see David N'gog come to Bolton, I think he will live up to his potential more with you fine fellas then being a bench warmer at Anfield. That and I have a secret soft spot for Bolton and want to see them do well. (Bolton did a North American tour last year and came to Charleston, South Carolina where I managed to see them play, even snagged a photo and autograph with Mr. Coyle)
The first time I saw N'gog play (which may or may not of been his Debut, not sure on that one) it was against ManUre and he managed to bag himself a goal.
Good luck with the season! Hope you embarrass the Mancs
