Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Indeed, although the counter argument is that had Cahill handed a request in or made it known he was unhappy, then I imagine Coyle and Gartside would have been forced into a deal, rather than keeping an unhappy player. In fact it is suggested that Redknapp tried to force this very situation. How much of that is to be believed I don't know!Lord Kangana wrote:I believe that if he'd handed in a transfer request then the hypothetical release valauation clause would have still stood. And Cahill would have forfeited any extra pay-offs or bonuses he was entitled to. I believe thats how it works. So nothing would have changed.elfil76 wrote:indeed felt a lot of angst and "just wait and you will regret" kind of comments - they can blame their miserly manager for that.
In the current situation where players throw in transfer request at every opportunity for better money, cahill demonstrated otherwise and I will be delighted if he signs a new contract however will not be too disappointed if he leaves for nowt in pursuit of what he thinks will be the best for him outside the trotters.
Personally I think Cahill is going in January. I don't believe he'll sign a new contract, he's a great lad, he's done brilliantly for us, but he's made it clear, without being disrespectful that he needs to play regular European, and really Champions League football, to fulfill his ambitions. I think Coyle and Gartside know this which presumably is why plans to offer him a contract were pushed back till after the window closed, in July Coyle openly talked about Gartside preparing a new deal for him, and then a few weeks later that became "we'll think about it when the window is closed". I imagine there won't even be a real offer on the table, but that in January we will do our best to get what we can for him and I'm sure Gary will oblige rather than sit out on a free, because well as I said, he's a good lad.
My suspicion is that a deal with Chelsea is quite likely, makes a lot of sense. Terry likes Cahill, Coyle and AVB are mates, we've taken some of their young players on loan. AVB would like to replace Alex sooner rather than later...

May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I think he will go to Chelsea with a Sturridge deal if he's not competing regularly or possible one of their fringe players.
Pfffft.

So anyway, more bollox in the Times today.
Full page on Cahill, with a thinly veiled message of "should have gone to a big club if you want to play for England".
Page opposite had an article on Andy Carroll not even being picked for the bench because of his discipline. For discipline reads shitness.

Yeah but do you know what, I like the fact that Cahill, Parker and Walcott were able to make the team despite being in clubs outside the top echelons of the league. There's bigger fish sat on the bench sacrificing because of the team

AVB wont be going anywhere for a good few years.. you don't pay upwards of 15mil for a short term manager.

Depends how much £15m means to you.
In this case, not a lot.

Seeing as Abramovich has spunked nigh on £70m in compo sacking managers and their backroom teams before, I doubt he'll be arsed at £15m when the time comes.ChrisC wrote:Holden midfielder wrote:I wouldn't assume that AVB will still be around in January though ....

Judging by some of the comments in here, I'm starting to think we actually caught one of the rational thinking Arsenal fans in Abs... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sp ... -deal.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Jimbo, love: don't look for sense on The Sun's website. Especially not in reader comments.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I thought Gary was one of Englands best players over the two games, could see both him and Terry forming a good English partnership leading to Chelsea buying him for £30million
