I'm angry that he puts an extra R in his first name that belongs in his surname!

Not often I get really angry about much but I think you should hear this as a warning:

Eldest daughter works in real estate. She bought a house on mortgage in Farnworth with a view to selling for a bit of profit. It's been on sale for a fair amount of time and she's done some work on it but not completed. It was up for sale with a board stating the phone number of the place she works at etc. After no luck she was approached by two Vietnamese blokes about a possible let. Showed them the place and they said if they could have it rent free for two months they'd complete all the work on it. Seemed like a fair deal and she agreed.

Left them to it and a few weeks later the police arrived and informed her they'd been alerted by the next door neighbours about strange goings-on at the place. When they arrived the two blokes saw them pulling up, jumped in a car and legged it rapido. The police broke into the house at the rear and found every room a foot deep in soil and canabis plants growing everywhere. The Vietnames fellas have totally disappeared, including the keys, and now she's left with the cost of having allthe locks changed, cleaning it all out and repairing all the damage as they'd trashed the place. The police don't pay for breaking in and it's all going to cost her a bomb before she can even put it in auction, her only option left. Neither the neighbours or the police bothered to ring her about any of it till it was all too late. My daughter's just a normal working girl and it's left the poor kid devastated.

Angry, you bet I am.

I bet it has. Happened to me in a house in Horwich. You're right though, there's nothing that can be done.

Looking back I should have known that my tenants were shifty, but the house had been on the market for so long that I was desperate to get someone in, I presume that's the case here too.

Joshin' aside, that really is a terrible thing to happen. I thought that this sought of thing could be picked-up on fairly quickly though due to the increased power usage and whatnot.

As a victim of crime is she not entitled to compensation or does this only apply to personal injury?

Really don't know WW, only got the details this morning. Very much doubt it as they'll probably never catch the bxstards.

Whilst I do sympathise TD, I really do, I find myself drawn to this particular passage.

''After no luck she was approached by two Vietnamese blokes about a possible let. Showed them the place and they said if they could have it rent free for two months they'd complete all the work on it. Seemed like a fair deal and she agreed''

Shocking though this is you must admit she was a little naive, no?

Actually TD I thought there was some fund set up by the government.

Mate of mine got his throat cut in Leeds and despite the perpetrators never being caught he received some compensation. Was a few years ago but maybe the program still exists.

Police would know.

Tango - Have a mooch on here. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CrimeJustic ... /DG_196166" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

EDIT: Actually it looks as though she'll only be able to claim against the offenders, and that the Govt. only give you compo if you're the victim of violence. :(

After already spending a fair amount for no joy she was obviously getting a little desperate. Property market isn't exactly flourishing right now. She truly wishes she'd never bothered. Now she'll have to part for peanutes and still be left with the rest of the mortgage. What would yo have done G?
