Not so sure that the bank will let her do that, Tango.TANGODANCER wrote:Now she'll have to part for peanutes and still be left with the rest of the mortgage.
Does she have buildings and contents insurance btw?

Cheers for that Bruce. That's interesting, I'll pass the link on.Bruce Rioja wrote:Tango - Have a mooch on here. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CrimeJustic ... /DG_196166" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
EDIT: Actually it looks as though she'll only be able to claim against the offenders, and that the Govt. only give you compo if you're the victim of violence.

I'm talking withour knowing too many fact here Bruce, as she's well grown up and you don't want to interfere in things too much. As I said, I only found out the bare facts this morning. My other daughter works in law so no doubt will advise her or get someone she knows to do it. I'll just have to hope it pans out okay. She'd probably rollock me for putting it on here but I just feel so sorry for the kid and wouldn't like it tohappen to anyone else.Bruce Rioja wrote:Not so sure that the bank will let her do that, Tango.TANGODANCER wrote:Now she'll have to part for peanutes and still be left with the rest of the mortgage.

Well, if I was in that game I would have probably asked for two months deposit for a start as security. I'd also have asked for previous addresses and references all of which seem to be pretty common. I definitely wouldn't have let complete strangers occupy my property without being able to check them outTANGODANCER wrote:After already spending a fair amount for no joy she was obviously getting a little desperate. Property market isn't exactly flourishing right now. She truly wishes she'd never bothered. Now she'll have to part for peanutes and still be left with the rest of the mortgage. What would yo have done G?Gary the Enfield wrote:Whilst I do sympathise TD, I really do, I find myself drawn to this particular passage.

Shocking though this is you must admit she was a little naive, no?
I would have also gone to my local council and checked out their social housing offers. You retain landlord status but the council rent your property for you and collect the rent which they then pay to you. This is done over a fixed period, say three years with both parties being able to terminate with 6 months notice. At least that's how it works down here.
Like I said I don't want to sound unsympathetic but this kind of thing is avoidable.

Having a horrible, miserable few days and now on top of all that having to shell out £400 for repairs to our boiler
Sucks.

it's a bummer of a situation - I feel for her. I guess it's also an antidote to all those property programmes on telly like "Under the Hammer" that make it look like it's a doddle to buy a house - do it up - and make a quick £100,000 profit...TANGODANCER wrote:Don't know right now but it was a fair while ago.Lofthouse Lower wrote:When did she buy the house?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, mine packed up in December when it had dropped to minus 17. It was three days before anyone could get to it and another heat-free day for the parts to arrive. £360 out of pocket, I moved house six weeks later!Gooner Girl wrote:Having a horrible, miserable few days and now on top of all that having to shell out £400 for repairs to our boilerSucks.

If I see that television advert one more time with Jensen Button advertising shampoo, the television's getting the Keith Moon treatment!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that is usually from recoverable funds. If the perps have legged it, they're not going to be recovering much from them.Lofthouse Lower wrote:Victim's surcharge and all that

Really sorry to hear your daughters story Tango. I work in housing and knew straight away when you said Vietnamese blokes where the story was going. I've come across this kind of scenario quite often. A colleague of my wifes had a similar experience to your daughter but discovered the cannabis farm himself. He rang the Police who told him to put it in bin bags and drive it down to the station. He was halfway there when he said he had this realisation that he was an Asian guy, in a BMW with several bin bags full of cannabis plants. Imagine him trying to talk his way out of that one if he'd been pulled over!
As for the electric usage - some of you would be amazed what folk get away with when it comes to power suppliers.
