I thought his dad told him to pick Everton in July?
Apparently that was a "misunderstanding".
Yes, easily done that.

Aye - he misunderstand the fact that Everton have even less money than we have and as such would not be strengthening their team.

I believe that his Dad wasn't keen for Boyata to come here on loan as part of a "swap deal" involving Cahill. Didn't want his son to be seen as a "makeweight" in a deal and to be "forced" to come here by City over anywhere else. That was where that quote came from earlier in the summer.

Since then he had a free choice of season long loan and chose us.

there you go with the insulting references to Down's Syndrome again.

You really should stick to one liners, copied quotes or emoticons.

that'll be because you're a fecking idiot. You were an idiot when you were on here as Batman, you were an idiot when you claimed to be Batman's bother - Bruno and you're an idiot now.

To call people charlies is very wrong It's no better than calling people spaz, or even , LK forbid, using the n word, or the P word.

Please stop doing it. If you knew any Down's people or any parent or relatives of a Down's child you'd understand. There are people on here who fall into that band and you can be forgiven for the error once, but it's 3 times I've requested you cease it now and 3 times you've been too stupid to respect the request. It's bigotry and it's vile and it's distressing.

Bobo is right you know, LL. It really is cretinous and crass behaviour of the highest order!

I've mentioned on here previously that I have a sister with Downs, but I am immensely proud of her and her lifetimes achievements, and the level of intelligence that she exhibits outshines yours by some magnitude at times. You recently put me on your 'TW happy list' or whatever it was you referred to it as - take me off it again will you!

And well said Bobo, well said!

Cant disagree with you and Bobo altho I know LL is using the word in jest. I would say that whilst on a pc ramble the word cretinous is also worth avoiding as cretin, like mongol and moron where all if I remember correctly Victorian categories for Imbecilism(now known as Learning Difficulties and more thoughtfully categorised). To call someone a cretin for referring to someone as a charlie either displays a touch of nnaive ignorance or a daring sense of irony.

Ian Moore's LC (I hope you were a better player than your dd btw), you are correct, though the 2 differences being that;
1. cretin, moron, imbecile have actually changed their role since the days their definitions were established.

So use of them does not really mean an attack on a body of people.

2. This "used in jest" line would have the same excuse as above for any individual usage. However I have 3 times now pointed it out to Batman/Bruno/LL yet he persists and indeed rejects the requests when they are made.

"charlie" actually IS an attack on a specific body of innocent people. Used once, in ignorance is excusable. Not 3 times & counting.

Not arguing Bobo, meanings do change and ultimately if something is offensive and unnecessary there are plenty of other ways to make a point.
I dont have relatives with learning difficulties but have worked with Downs children and adults. To be honest I saw them as people and didnt associate them with labels and personally I dont make the link between the use of anacronistic words as terms of abuse with the human beings those words were once associated with. Hence I don't find LLs usage offensive. However that is purely a personal reaction. If others find it offensive then there is no need for it.

It is not "liberal fascism" to ask someone not to be knowingly offensive.

It is wankerish in the extreme to persist in using terms like "charlie" when you have been asked not to and are aware that there are people on the forum whose personal experience makes such words offensive. It is even more wankerish to be proud of the fact that you do it, indeed - even more wankerish to use such words for effect, deliberately to draw a response because your most thrilling purpose in life is to provoke reaction on an internet forum.

there are plenty of football forums I could go to where the participants can call each other "charlies" all day long and marvel at their dazzling wit. I settled here because it is a place where (comparatively speaking) the debate is generally respectful and mindless abuse is not tolerated.

so - I'm with bobo

absolutely LK. It'd be like accusing someone of being racist without the faintest evidence.

In this case there is plenty of evidence, so we can agree.

I missed where anyone asked for a rule...

All I saw was bobo asking LL not to - because he found it offensive. Did I miss something?

I'd always happily comply with an expectation that if I had written something that someone told me they found offensive - then I'd find another word next time - and try my best not to do it again. That's not really liberal fascism - is it? surely that's just politeness and being grown-up.

Anyway, I'd like to hope that real people (not idiots like bobo or thebish) realise that there is no malice in what I say - that particular word was commonplace when I grew up to describe idiots and not to insult anyone with anything like Downs Syndrome. So I apologise in advance for any inadvertent offence caused to everyone but the aforementioned forummers.

In future I'll use a different word to describe the chimps in monkey corner, then muppets like bobo and thebish can sleep soundly at night.
