Well, this stuff at B&Q is subject to a subsidy, they say, and is reduced from £20 a roll to £6. had to get it done at that price!

What's the coverage of a roll, Clapton?
Also, what's its R value and to what degree do you think it'll affect my U value (please calculate and display using Watts per metre squared degrees C)?

Is it right you have to leave spotlights untouched when your insulating your loft? Someone told me it's a fire hazard if if you just throw the insualtion down over the top of em. Sorry if this is a daft question to the DIYers on here. I'm a right Terry Feckwitt when it comes to stuff like this.

You need to check whether your spots are built to allow them to be covered by insulation. On the inside of your light it should say "IC" or "Non IC".Harry Genshaw wrote:Is it right you have to leave spotlights untouched when your insulating your loft? If it's IC then are made to allow insulation over them. IC means insulated covered I believe.
If Non IC then you need to cut the insulation around them - usually 3 inches but I use a gap of 6 inches. Alternatively you can buy a baffle which fits over the light in the loft and holds the insulation away from the fixture.
I use IC lights and leave a gap from the insulation to be extra safe. I prefer to forgo the small heat loss around the light than to risk it.

Insulation is a big oven glove.
It stops heat going where you don't want it to.
If you put your oven glove too close to something hot it might burn.

I don't often venture into this thread, rival as it is, but today I'm happy about passing my level two football coaching badge.

Ahh cheers Bish. I'm so proud of her. She's been working really hard all this time and I was confident she would pass but this result was the icing on the cake. Credit card took a further hammering but it was only right to take her out for teathebish wrote:and good reason for all round general happiness I'd say - well done to the missus!Harry Genshaw wrote:I'm happy today that the wife, after 4 years study has just graduated with a 1st class. Well done Pru. I did my level 2 a few years ago and it's certainly not a walk in the park. It's a lot of commitment, time and effort.Prufrock wrote:I don't often venture into this thread, rival as it is, but today I'm happy about passing my level two football coaching badge.
Well done to Mrs G too, Harry.
Re: Today I'm happy about......
Cheers GG. Level One, frankly, was a joke, but Level Two has been really worth it. I'm definitely a much better coach now than I was 6 months ago. Not a great pass rate either, around 50% I think, so I'm pretty happy. That combined with my last day of work tomorrow for another year makes it a good night.

Fantastic achievement, congrats to her - and to you for the support I'm sure you gave and she needed. Brilliant!Harry Genshaw wrote:I'm happy today that the wife, after 4 years study has just graduated with a 1st class. Behind every successful woman..
