He missed England's two Euro qualifiers this week so I assume Jones will deputise for him on Saturday.Annoyed Grunt wrote: And Jar Jar Binks!?

Phone cords. Or people who who land-line phones and leave them with the wire so bent & twisted that they must, simply MUST have been on a waltzer whilst talking.
It must be dismissable. I'm investigating.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

No, it's a ceremony to celebrate the opening of an event - completely worthwhile and justifiable.
If you don't like it, then just switch on at kick-off time.

Never understood them myself, and never watch either opening nor closing ceremonies. Listening to people that applied for Olympic tickets, when I asked them which events they'd applied for, to a man they responded "Well, opening ceremony and Men's 100 metres obviously..." No - it bloody well isn't obvious at all.thebish wrote:Poncey Opening Ceremonies for sporting events...

Theatre rather than sport. Usually complete bollox, though the formation bongo's in Peking were good.
The old school chum's directing next years, but it'll still be pretty pointless to me.

I don't know whether or not you are simply being contrary, thebish, but, nevertheless, I fully concur with your sentiment. Many of these 'extravaganzas' cost millions of pounds/dollars/filthy lucre to stage and - even if totally paid for by sponsorships (directly or otherwise) - are an incredible waste of currency.
Pah!

nope - I was being entirely serious - they are all a giant ball-bag of poo. just get on with the sport - if I wanted theatre or dance or a firework display or children in national dress pretending that the world is at peace, there are plenty of places I could go.

Very difficult to find a random firework display in Bolton and almost impossible to locate dancing children in national dress.
Where do you source them?

Any Saturday night if national dress is jeans and hoodies. The firework display is usually up the side of a school building and the dancing takes place whilst it burns. I'm angry at people who say 'source' when they want to know where you get things from.

Source?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
