Just made beef in oyster sauce. Delicious, with some boiled rice as couldn't be bothered making egg fried this time!

You MADE a syrup sponge? Not bought in a Heinz tin? Highly impressive, bish.thebish wrote:just made and eaten a syrup sponge pudding... easy as piss - and utterly heavenly - four of us ate it with vanilla ice-cream... dunno why I haven't made it before...
When (absolutely any) sponge and custard is on the dessert menu I just can't help myself

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
has always been the heinz tin - used to be me and the middle son who ate it - shared a tin. but now the daughter has decided she wants to join in - and big son is back from Uni - which makes the tin a bit miserly!Bruce Rioja wrote:You MADE a syrup sponge? so - I thought - how hard can it be?? and it turns out - not very hard at all!
basically...
six tbs syrup at bottom of a pudding bowl
whack the following in the food processor:
100g SR flour
100g caster sugar
100g butter/olive spread/marge
2 free range eggs
put resultant gloop into pudding basin on top of the puddle of syrup
bake in oven at gas mk 6 for about half an hour (or until skewer comes out clean)
(I'm told you can also microwave it for abt 4mins - which is quicker - but I am willing to bet, less satisfactory!)
variations - up to you! currants/cinammon/nutmeg/lemon juice/whack anything you like in!

I may just slope off across the road, as I'm not back at work until Monday and Benfica have just scored.Bruce Rioja wrote:Worthy4England wrote:Babby's yed, chips & gravy.
Triffic. The utmost repect for a gentleman that, not only does he have a chippy tea on a Wednesday, but comes back with the dish of the Gods. Suppose you'll be sloping off over the road to wash it down with a sly pint too, won'tcha? Legend!
