I wouldn't put my mortgage on it - but i am sure I have seen clips on telly of Johnny saying it... (You're right - the pugwash stuff IS made-up - there never was a Seaman Staines! or a Roger the cabin boy!)

Doesn't K mean you've underpaid?
No, it means I've got a negative tax code (although I can see that people who have underpaid would end up with one).
Often means your benefits in kind are larger than your total allowances. Sounds like more perks than your average investment banker there Brucie.

True, utterly.

It was on Nationwide, the BBC News Magazine programme, arounf 1978/9. After she had made a pile of Doughnuts he piped up the the above "... and I hope all your doughnuts turn out like Fanny's".

I was at Uni at the time & our household was in high mirth for days.

I would have thought it was a good ten years earlier than that. I have a clear memory of it being in black and white.

Can't say it wasn't said twice, but for sure it was said then and I can picture the room & who was there etc., etc.

Can we clear this up one way or t'other? Did it or didn't it happen (I'm suspecting not).

As Bish attests, Theresa (MP for Maidenhead, Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities) Twatting May comes out with this illegal immigrant + cat story which Ken (Beer and Sandwiches) Clarke immediately rubbishes.
Driving home from work last night and Peter (smooth as a buttered dolphin) Allen has Damian (Member for Ashford and an absolute member) Green on, who reads out what he claims to be the transcript of the judge's summing up of the case. Then, later on, I'm watching tele, on which Paxman tells Theresa May that they've been on to the Lord Chief Justice's office who claim that no such case has ever existed.

Now, I know that I'm easilly confused and that, but this is taking the piss :conf:

There was a case where a Bolivian man had been living here with a British woman for four years. At the time the Home Office had a rule that said anybody who was the partner of a British national (certain provisions had to be met, either marriage, or living together for more than two years) had the right to remain. This bloke had been living here for over four years with his partner (in order to show their relationship was serious they pointed out they owned a cat together-ie, some show of commitment and responsibility). The bloke was allowed to stay, the Home Office appealed, then later accepted they had just failed to apply their own rule.

Papers decide man can stay coz he has a cat.

as i remember it - there was a case that mentioned a cat. The cat was mentioned in evidence (with a looooong list of other stuff) about whether a relationship existed with another person or not - it was one of many pieces of evidence used to establish a relationship. Often courts have to establish whether a relationship actually exists or not - and the "evidence" that proves or disproves it can sound bizarre when taken out of context. the cat was NOT the reason they were allowed to stay - they were NOT granted leave to stay because he/they had a cat - which is what Teresa May is now claiming (to loud Tory applause)

It is NOT the case the the human rights act allowed an illegal immigrant to stay because he had a cat.

May is lying.

(the judge mentioned the cat in the summing-up as a joke)

fckg cat should be deported too. Unless it can show it had established a relationship with a UK citizen by roming around their home, showing it's ringpiece and sleeping on the best seats before scratching the buggery out of them.

I'm fairly sure that much of what Cameron says - and the way he says it - will make me angry...

BUT - I'm angry about summat else.... that is - that nobody gives a speech nowadays without the media knowing what you are going to say the day before...

this means that your speech is reported, critiqued and discussed on radio phone-ins before you've even delivered it...

of course - some of this is kite-flying (like Cameron this time round) - but most of it is simply "news management".

I may be old fashioned in saying this - but can we not just wait until the speech is made before discussing it???
