You don't look like you've been for a run. Not for quite some time anyway.Worthy4England wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:I'll be reading this thread next time i'm suffering from insomniathebish wrote:surprise, surprise! Growth forecasts downgraded yet again - now - 0.1%

Sprinter mate. Hear that bell go and I'm there faster than Usain Vault. I've referred your ill advised remarks to my legal team.

Re: The Politics Thread
Seriously Bish - you've pointed out yourself that the Government hasn't actually reduced our borrowing at all. What exactly is it you'd like them to do differently? As it is, I think Osborne is making a decent fist of convincing the world of his illusory fiscal discipline!thebish wrote:surprise, surprise! Growth forecasts downgraded yet again - now - 0.1%
So growth is disappointing... the world economy isn't exactly lending a helping hand here. Are you saying the answer is even more borrowing?

I suspect that the continued increase in borrowing (and hence increased gov. debt) reflects the truth that it is not primarily the stuff that Osborne has CUT (public sector jobs and local council budgets) that contribute most to the borrowing requirement - YET, they have a significant impact on growth in the economy. Thought the tories banged on about it for years - it was NOT labour spending on schools, nurses and police that caused the problem.
the huge job losses lead to a cut in tax-take and an increase in welfare spending - which pushes up borrowing.
I'd rather borrow to fund a nurse or repair a school - putting life back into the economy, than I'd borrow to fund a gap in tax-take because I had increased unemployment.
Either way - Osborne assured us that under his watch we were NOT, NO, DEFINITELY NOT, heading back into recession - why? - because the Gov had a credible growth strategy. The growth forecasts suggest otherwise.

Condensed by the Guardian?! You don't mind if I don't bother, do you? I'll source my news from a more independent source if that's ok with you. Do you not feel at least a little hypocritical for slating Daily Mail readers on the one hand, yet offering up stuff from The Guardian as being some sort of official version? If not, you should!
