The Bedford Sprint is a series of three races between April and October which I will do next year before moving up to Olympic distance.
In 2013 I'll attempt a couple of half ironmans before stepping up to the big one in 2014/15 (hopefully)

Di Canio Runs Half Marathon by Mistake!
Perhaps his phone rang?!
Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio's plans to join in the town's fun run went awry when he took a wrong turn and ended up on a half marathon course.
The 43-year-old was at the event to start the main race, before participating in the two-mile short course.
The Italian's mishap meant he went the full half marathon distance - 13.1 miles - as well as an additional 800 metres on the original route.
But having realised his mistake, Di Canio opted not to pull out of the race.
"I couldn't stop, there was a challenge," he told BBC Wiltshire. "There were three options, I thought I should start with the [fun run] marathon but unfortunately we changed direction, kept going and followed the first group.
"At the end I was very happy because I finished without stopping, even for one second. I wasn't ready but I never stopped running. I'm very happy but it was very tough."
Di Canio completed the distance in a creditable one hour 49 minutes, with the eventual race winner Dave Roper finishing 36 minutes earlier.

The Italians are bloody good runners though. Just look at their wartime record.

I was getting on 39 weeks pregnant this time last year, and i could barely waddle from the sofa to the kitchen... Couldn't even bend down to tie up my laces let alone run a marathon!

Take it easy. Don't expect (or plan on) doing more than a couple of minutes light jogging. I left it 12 months after I quit smoking before I started running, just to give my lungs chance to recover.
Re: The athletics/running thread
I've done sport, running and some other forms of training while smoking, so hopefully it shouldn't be too bad...it'll be an easyish session anyway.

How'd ya get on V?
I polished off another 10k race this morning. Nice flat course, out and back(ish) along the Lea Valley finishing in the Lea Valley Athletics Centre. 44:51
Half Marathon in 3 weeks, so I'd better start increasing the run lengths!

Did a 5k yesterday and was delighted with a time of 21.50 which means my fitness cant be too far off.

Cheers GtE - wish you hadn't asked me that though! Started and finished on a race track, with rough paths inbetween. A big down hill and a big uphill which we had to do twice. Not quite as firm and flat as a canal towpath but not far offGary the Enfield wrote:Harry Genshaw wrote:Did a 5k yesterday and was delighted with a time of 21.50 which means my fitness cant be too far off.

Only did a short 5km run tonight, but the wind outside nearly blew me over! Guess winter is approaching fast. Had to put the central heating on today too...
