So not the dog's spare bowl then? Points deducted. However, you can earn them back by proving the viscosity of your custard (DIN Rating is perfectly acceptable) and proof of Madagascan vanilla involvement therein!thebish wrote:rustic earthenware, Bruce - none of this sparkly gleaming stainless steel space-age non-stick-coated utensil malarky that LK would use....Bruce Rioja wrote:Points off if that's not the dog's spare bowl, Bisho.
(I think there's a tagine version for William)

If you want good ice cream, these boys produce just about the best I've ever tasted...

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Come on, LK. Tell us how to make proper custard. Seriously, mate, I'd love to know (although I fear burning it).

Now you come to mention it... I'm roasting some chicken thighs that have been marinaded in ras-el-hanout and olive oil, garlic and just a little crushed chjilli... And partner is doing a spicy veggie tagine, which will be her main, and my side... aromas in kitchen next door promising...thebish wrote:rustic earthenware, Bruce - none of this sparkly gleaming stainless steel space-age non-stick-coated utensil malarky that LK would use....Bruce Rioja wrote:Points off if that's not the dog's spare bowl, Bisho.

Since I did the shopping we've 'compromised' on a NZ chardonnay on offer in Morrisons and pretty good at under a fiver... She's a sauv blanc fan... But he who shops first, gets first dibs...

Somewhere between Creme Anglaise and Creme Patisierre.
Seriously, boil milk with vanilla, mix egg yolks and sugar, put some milk in to your egg mix (this avoids shocking the eggs and is called tempering) then whack it all in the same pan and whisk like fury over a medium heat.
You can always put it through a sieve if you f*ck up, by the way.

Honestly? I don't know. Just by eye. I think it might be three egg yolks per pint, or more. But it doesn't matter if you over egg it, because you can always let it down with more cream or milk anyway.

Thanks Crazyhorse. Hope your daughter had a lovely day? I think the occasion bypassed the twins somewhat but despite a lot of stress on my part the party went ok (we have mountains of cake left though! I think i over-catered!)CrazyHorse wrote:'tis my daughters birthday today too; she's six. We're having a rockstar fairy princess party. Happy birthday to your two.

He's 9, and comes to the footy with me now and again. I suspect, mainly for the half time hot dog...Gooner Girl wrote:Couldn't you have taken him and some friends to the Wigan game for a birthday do?! How old is he?Worthy4England wrote:Hadn't twigged. We took them all out to Franky and Benny's. I thought the food was crap, kids liked it. Then back to ours for more partying.Gooner Girl wrote:Hehem! Not sexist, the girlies concerned don't like footy.

Somebody at work told me about that, says it's pretty reasonable as well.

4 of us spent £170. But that included 2 bottles of wine (Merlot and a Muscat Black dessert wine) me and the Father in Law both had an Erdinger and a Quilmes (pint) each and we finished it off with a cocktail at the end (on the house) 3 courses each and it was top nosebag..keveh wrote:Somebody at work told me about that, says it's pretty reasonable as well.
I recommend it mate

Girlfriend must be trying to kill me off, she gave me some butternut squash soup to take to work, but its as brown as mud and spicier than anything Ive ever had!
Its been a Macmillan coffee morning at work today as well so the soup combined with a ton of cakes is going to make for interesting times later on!
