Re: Today I'm angry about.....
£55 for a textbook?!
Sure they didn't cost that much when i was at Uni!
Looking to embark on my Level 4 Athletics Coach award (5-10 years part time study - gulp!) when UK Athletics finally sort themselves out by the end of the year and have been told to read 'Growth, Maturation, and Physical Activity' (I know, thrill a minute...) Why does a simple book cost so much?! Its not like its got a gold plated spine or something!
Unimpressed!

Minority interests don't have the volume sales to bring down the unit cost thus not enabling the retail price to be pegged

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
You really are getting old, GG, and your memory is going with the passing of time.
Some ten or twelve years ago I purchased a book for my son. It wasn't a prescribed text as he'd been a BSc for some time. However he had, and still does, an interest in snakes - to the point that he has a licence to keep such reptiles in his house (appropriately housed of course). That reference publication set me back near to AUD100. My fingers tremble as I type, but Hoboh is correct. Even given the inflated prices we who live in the 'land down under' are required to pay for books I didn't regret a penny of the money I spent.

Most of my textbooks are in the £30-60 bracket, and they're all pretty mainstream. Head into specialities land and they'll top £100 pretty easily. Can't wait to sell most of mine to naive younger students when I finish in summer.Gooner Girl wrote:£55 for a textbook?!![]()

One I used for one of my Uni submissions was £2,500 in 1996.jimbo wrote:Most of my textbooks are in the £30-60 bracket, and they're all pretty mainstream. ... oh, my condolences. Isn't it a dreadful place. I never go there without wanting to get right out again asap.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Had to traipse around the Trafford Centre
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I could feel the anger rising in me as I walked around. On the plus side, I got 2 books bought for me.bobo the clown wrote:... oh, my condolences. Isn't it a dreadful place. I never go there without wanting to get right out again asap.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Had to traipse around the Trafford Centre

You're not going to lose all that timber you've put on since the twins were born, if you keep popping in to Burger King
