I see Danny Shittu's available.. Anybody think he'd be worth a punt?

We have Robbie Blake on our books. Just sayin', likeJokers in White wrote:I don't think we should offer him a new contract, he's past his best now!

Yeah, the chances of us replacing over half our squad is exactly zero. Davies, Klasnic, Knight and Ricketts are all nailed on to stay I think. Depends on other factors for the rest, but in an ideal world I'd keep Gardner, Steinsson, Robbo and Petrov too.

Re: Kev Davies future on hold
I think Steinsson and Robinson's futures are largely dependent on the future fitness of Ricketts and Mears, the impact of Riley this season, the guilt or innocence of Alonso and the willingness of Ricardo to commit to another year on cheap terms. Events of the last two years would suggest that neither is a favourite.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Re: Kev Davies future on hold
I'd not be against letting go of either, particularly Robinson. However, whilst Steinsson has potentially Riley, Ricketts and Mears for competition, Robinson has only Ricardo and Alonso. Regarding Steinsson, if Ricketts and Mears both come back fine, since all three are much of a muchness, there is a case for getting Steinsson's wages off the bill without having to worry about replacing him. As for Robinson, Alonso's guilt is irrelevant, he is utter gash, not anywhere near as good as Robinson himself. A lot would depend on Ricardo's knees being OK. If he can't play regularly then letting Robinson go would end in a situation where if Gardner isn't fit, then you have a wank Alonso, or if he is in jail, nobody. I actually think Sam Ricketts will be first choice left back if he comes back fit. That then of course affects the RB situation.
IF Riley turns out to be able to hack it, and Mears and Ricketts both come back fine, and Gardner will sign a new contract AND his knees are fine, then I can see the attraction of letting both go. I'm not convinced.

Ricketts is comfortable with both feet and has played left back for us alot so i think we could afford to get rid of robbo and steinsson, alonso was a waste of sperm! the guy is useless he even looked out of his depth against macclesfield.Prufrock wrote:I'd not be against letting go of either, particularly Robinson. mind we will have an opening for a centre half anyway.
Re: Kev Davies future on hold
Which Ricketts could cover IF he wasn't our first choice left back
Sto ut Serviam
Re: Kev Davies future on hold
I don't think Ricketts has done too much wrong, steady and competent. Good as a back up.

Aye he seemed better at centre half. hell of a gamble replacing knight and cahill with rickets though.

Agreed OD, but then I'm hoping Owen has an idea about replacements for next seasonofficer_dibble wrote:Aye he seemed better at centre half. hell of a gamble replacing knight and cahill with rickets though.

Re: Kev Davies future on hold
Keep SKD; we need the cover. I don't think he would be the type to throw his toys out of the pram about less money and less game time, he knows that the entire second half of his career has been a bonus since BSA picked him up off the scrap heap.
I wish to christ we'd get rid of Petrov; as Eagles showed on Sunday, better a right-footed player out of position than a lazy left-footed sack of sh1t. It would also least free up the wage bill a bit. Keep Ricky as well to give us options (for some games) at left mid.
I don't think Mears is going to work out for us. He's 28 already and there's buggerall in his CV that suggests he can cut it at PL level, plus he has a history of injury. So I wouldn't want him to be our Plan B at full back.
Steinsson looked like a proper footballer when he joined; I don't know what's happened to him since but I still harbour hopes - quite possibly deluded!- he can get back to a decent level.
So my preferred FB roster would be Riley/Steinsson for RB. Robbo (groan)/Ricketts for LB (with Ricky for added cover). Get shot of the rest.
NB this is what I'd like to see happen, not what I think will happen.

Ah, but do we really think Danny Shittu would get out of bed for less than £55k per week?

Chuck in a Louis Vuitton wash bag and a couple of 'bitches' and he'd be back in no time
